FOXNews.com - You Decide 2004 - Report, GOP Source: Keyes to Run for Ill. Senate

Just a thought here. But why is Keyes running? Although an excellent speaker, Keyes will have many hurdles to overcome in order to beat Obama. Firstly, he’s not from Illinois and will have to establish residency before the election. That costs money outside of the election and is most likely wasted. Secondly, he’s not accomplishing anything by running. This race will now pit two African-Americans against each other. If he wants more African-American influence in DC, he should run in another state. Thirdly, Obama’s HOT right now. The only hilite of the DNC was Obama. The rest, according to Nielsen, was ignored. Fourthly, Obama’s been in this a long time, has tons of support, tons of money, and a grass roots organization already stumping, Keyes will have to put all that together ( granted he can pick up the former candidate’s people ), fifthly, in regards to support, Keyes’ philosophy is polar opposite of who he is replacing, he won’t even get all their support. And lastly, I am sure Jim Ryan’s burning the party faithful has more than likely drained their enthusiasm for donating to another candidate ( look for very little in-state success in raising money ). Look for Keyes to lose his third Senate race and pretty much end his political career. I thought he was smarter than this.

( Side note, people are touting Obama as the next major political star. That was the role Keyes held for the Republicans four years ago. Political stars fade very, very fast when there’s no success attached to it. )
