Feeling kinda bored

This is my sixth presidential election. I have followed most pretty close. Without any question, this election has been the most visible on the ‘net. With discussion boards, blogs, chatting, and pop-up ads, it is everywhere on the net. The ‘net has even been a factor in this race, as 527’s have taken to the ‘net to appeal to the masses, Bush particularly has had a very aggressive online presence, bloggers have contributed to “Memogate”, and all parties now accept online contributions.
As an avid netter, this should thrill and excite me. But it has failed to do so. I watched Dukakis go down in flames, I watched Dole flame out, and now, I am quite certain Kerry’s heading the same route. I’m not very excited about this race any more. I like a good fight, regardless of the sport. If your team beats another team at its best, you know your team is the best there is. When the team I love most beats up on another obviously outmatched team, I usually change channels or find something else to do. It bores me.
This race is now boring me. Kerry has hung his entire game on the Vietnam issue, which means nothing to me. It doesn’t affect my income, it doesn’t affect my health care, it doesn’t affect the well-being of my family, it has absolutely no affect on me whatsoever. Generals of the past have been some of the worst Presidents this country ever had. Being a military “hero” does not guarantee a peson of being a great president. Even if Kerry were totally honest and a true undisputable hero, it wouldn’t mean a thing in 2004. The war we’re fighting now is not the war Kerry fought in 1968. It’s a different animal entirely that relies more on information than it does accurate shooting skills. I think most people realize this. The one obvious exception is Kerry. I think his campaign people know this. I really feel Kerry is so upset that someone questioned him on this that he is going to go down with the “I’m right” ship rather than bail out and address other issues while people throw taunts at him. Bush is going to win this election because he has totally ignored all the nasty things people threw at him and stuck to his campaign agenda of addressing issues that do mean something to people today. At this point, I just want it over.

right on. Kerry’s going to lose. I think the issue is that both campaigns cant face up to what their parties have done to this country, and will do anything to avoid talking about the future.

The future of the parties actually would make for a different, very interesting post. Right now the problem is that neither party represents the core beliefs that formed the parties in the first place. The Republicans have done a good job of identifying themselves as representing the conservative values, while the Democrats have pretty much defaulted with what’s left, ergo the liberal left tag. While Bush is fitting the mold of the very modern Republican, Kerry is just hammering the image of the modern Democrat party, no solid core beliefs and no solid position on anything. That’s what’s been killing the Democrats on a national level for 28 years. Clinton did a good job of conveying his message, and that’s been it for the Dems. They need to regroup, put together a coherent unified message, and run with it. Simply attacking Republicans for being Republican isn’t working too well.
