I got the head’s up on this one from Political Vice Squad.  It’s almost surreal:

Daschle Vows to Continue Policy Debates

OK, that’s the headline.  Simple enough.  Here’s what Daschle plans on doing:

VERMILLION, S.D. – Former Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle, in his first visit to his home state since losing the November election, served notice Tuesday that he will continue to debate President Bush and the Republican Party on policy issues.

OK, still simple enough.  And, he has a plan:

He said he supports private investments as additional savings not a replacement for traditional Social Security benefits.

OK, I’m still with him.  I have advocated the exact same idea.  Now, this is where it gets surreal:

The event included a dinner and remarks from former Republican Gov. Bill Janklow, who resigned from Congress in his first term last year after being convicted of vehicular manslaughter.

I’m not sure Janklow’s in a position to be much support for any issue right now.  His moral angle is somewhat tarnished to say the very least.  He might have access to cash, but his political status is "one to be avoided" if you want to be taken seriously.

Now, probably realizing that Janklow isn’t that much help outside of raising capitol, Daschle’s solicited another political stalwart:

Also speaking were former Sen. George McGovern and USA Today founder Al Neuharth.

"I think there’s a great, great future ahead for Tom Daschle. We’re going to hear more about him," McGovern said, crediting Daschle for helping to secure money for programs that feed hungry people in the United States and around the world.

McGovern is known for criticizing Bush for this bizarre accusation:

The Administration now has seventy-five officials hidden in bunkers outside Washington poised to take over the government in the event of a terrorist attack. Is it possible that paranoia has become policy? No such extreme measures were undertaken in World War II, nor in the half-century of cold war between the two nuclear giants, Russia and the United States.

And, the possible star of the evening, Al Neuharth, who does rank a LOT higher in my book, is noted for some of his quotes ( he’s in publishing, so he has lots of them ):

Never hesitate to steal a good idea.

What a line-up huh?

Now, the gist of my point is that as I mentioned before, they are advocating a change to Social Security that I have already gone on record as endorsing.  Mainly, to allow people to add to their Social Security with private accounts as opposed to having the private accounts take away from their mandatory contributions.

With help like this, my cause is DOA.  Do me a favor guys, keep attacking the "shadow government" and leave my cause alone?  OK?
