Ceci Connelly and the 100 Murders

From Instapundit:
Connolly: There have been many homicides of prisoners.
They also have a link to the actual video of her interview on Fox. They quickly point out that the actual Pentagon report lists 27, not "close to 100". She also equivocates her response by stating "I believe…". Of course, she’s wrong. Of course, she cites no real source to her figure. Of course, Brit Hume failed to challenge her on that figure. So, what this amounts to is nothing but a claim, and, once again, something to fuel resentment in those countries where our soldiers are at risk.
The people at Instapundit offer various opinions on her comment, but, no one really elaborates on who she is and why she would say that. Let’s look, shall we?
Ceci is a journalist for the Washington Post. Her career evidently began around 1992. She is a semi-regular on Fox representing the liberal side of issues. One of her most noted moments was, during the Dan Rather retirement saga, commenting on watching the first lunar landing, in 1969. According to her, she was at school when it happened. A fun read is the exchange on that topic at bimmerfest.com. Notably, the lunar landing was on July 20, 1969. That was a Sunday.
Probably the most quoted Ceci line came from the 2004 Presidential debates. On Bush’s appearance, Ceci stated "Several times it looked to me as if the president was sucking on a lemon," On Howard Dean, €śWell you know, he has always been underestimated.€ť
There’s a bunch of other stuff that is VERY difficult to document. One of my previous gripes about liberals in general in the past is they seem to have a difficult time dealing with the real world. Ceci just doesn’t strike me as any different. In her mind, I’m sure she did watch the Lunar Landing sitting in summer school on a Sunday. In her mind, there are close to 100 murders reported by the Pentagon. In her mind, Howard Dean is underestimated.
The fault with that exchange doesn’t lie with Ceci, it lies with Brit for not requesting more background info to verify her statement. This is the same situation as the Newsweek fiasco. Just because media says something doesn’t mean the rest of media has to accept it. Brit should have challenged her on that figure. Brit failed.
