But trust me…….

Newsweek just doesn’t know when to give up…….

I€™m sitting here with a gloomy letter from Iraq, written by a high-ranking officer I cannot name in a branch of service I cannot name in a part of the country I cannot name. But trust me, because I trust him. Iraqis, he says, have no feel for or belief in the democracy we want to create, and our occupation is making them less, not more, capable of self-government.

OK, Howard.  Tell me this.  Why should we trust something that could be as credible a source as say, Spongebob? The question Howard asks is "Was it worth it?"  Why bother asking? He’s already made up his mind.  And besides, as any decent reporter knows, you don’t refer to something in progress in the past sense.  He’s not that stupid.  It’s called bias.

The simple solution is capitolism at it’s best. Just don’t buy Newsweek and raise 10 kinds of hell with their advertisers.

Freedom of speech grants Newsweek the right to write this bullshit, but doesn’t require us to buy their publication nor advertise in it.

You want to change the bias problem? Hit them hard where it counts, in the pocketbook. Giving those folks free publicity complaining about their editorials is counterproductive because people will go and buy the publication to see what all the fuss is about. That helps them and not us.

Write letters to their advertisers advising them we will no longer purchase their products if they keep advertising in publications like Newsweek and that will make a profound difference. Cancel your subscription with a letter stating exactly why you are doing so and by all means pass it up at the newsstand for a more balanced periodical.

That my friend is the only way to get their attention and force them to be more balanced or extinct.

Well, I doubt I’ve sold any copies of Newsweek. There’s no reason to since I directly quote their content. It’s already read here, for free. Secondly, people won’t know to protest Newsweek if no one outs them. If someone sees here how biased they have become, when they pass Newsweek on the newstand, hopefully they’ll think twice before buying it. The other actions you mentioned help as well.
