American Bar Association on The Patriot Act

The president-elect of the nation’s largest lawyers group on Monday said some of the federal government’s investigative powers included in the anti-terrorism Patriot Act are a threat to constitutional rights.

Michael Greco criticized aspects of the act, passed to bolster security after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, at the American Bar Association convention, where U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales urged the U.S. Congress to renew it.

"We support the (Bush) administration in its efforts to secure the nation but we have taken policy positions, four or five of them, where we think due process has not been followed," Greco said in an interview with Reuters.

There’s the leader.  So, I tried searching the ABA website for what Greco was referring to.  I got too many responses to filter it down to what it was.

So, could any lawyer enlighten me? What I did read was a couple where there were a lot of "what if’s" and "this could happens".  I don’t live that way.  It’s never failed me either.  I line concrete facts.  I like examples.  I know that in almost all case law, there is a cause, effect, and precedent.  I am assuming the ABA looked at precedent before coming to their conclusion.  I am so sure they wouldn’t just be pushing a political agenda.  After all, they are lawyers.

Why don’t they just explain their decision to try and effectively shut down mass transportation in NYC?

These people are frauds and need to be exposed for what they are.

This latest lawsuit directly helps the terrorists efforts and, if sucessful, would cause more chaos than a dirty bomb would. Dirty bombs may cause severe damage but they wouldn’t shut down New York City. This lawsuit would.
