Do unto others as you’d have done to you

Religious broadcaster Pat Robertson suggested on-air that American operatives assassinate Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez to stop his country from becoming "a launching pad for communist infiltration and Muslim extremism."

"We have the ability to take him out, and I think the time has come that we exercise that ability," Robertson said Monday on the Christian Broadcast Network’s "The 700 Club."

In the spirit of being a good Christian, "Do unto others as they’d have done to you" would apply.  And, I think Chavez is more than willing.  Lucky for Pat, he’s more distracted with Donald Rumsfeld:

"There certainly is evidence that both Cuba and Venezuela have been involved in the situation in Bolivia in unhelpful ways."

Now, Venezuela is becoming economically critical to the US.  As long as the US is reliant on oil, we’re going to have to figure some way to get along with Venezuela whether we like it or not.

Now, whether Rumsfeld has a point or not, and whether Robertson has a point or not, some things just don’t need to be blurted out for world consumption.  On both of their speeches, it was best left unsaid.  Bush or Rice needs to sit down with Chavez in private and discuss our concerns over Bolivia.  Grandstanding on international media is just dumb.  The one thing that will allow Chavez to garner support from his people is for them to perceive that their country is under attack from the US.  The best way for that to happen is to give Chavez something to present to his people that they are.  Pat Robertson and Donald Rumsfeld have done just that.

Now, I’m going to offer what I think these two need to do: Rumsfeld needs to shut up and very quietly help Bolivia protect itself from Chavez and Castro. Pat Robertson needs to retire and shut up.  Chavez and Castro won’t be around a whole lot longer and we don’t want to poison what could be next.

I hate to sound like a broken record but can anyone identify an ally on this list?

Stop gap #1 Drill in ANWAR Its good for the caribu and reindeer.

Stop Gap #2 Jumpstart Iraq’s economy by being the sole consumer of its oil. Screw everyone else who didn’t commit troops to liberate this country.

Perfect Hydrogen fuel. That is the answer to all the problems. Politically, Enviromentally and Economically, this is the best answer by far.

As long as the price of gas is still high enough, alternative fuels become economically viable. Economics, not politics, will dictate how long we are reliant on unfriendly nations for our energy source. When Hydrogen fuel becomes a reality in everyday life, those folks on the list will have the problems and not us. We need to be self reliant and if that comes at the cost equivalant of $3.50 a gallon so be it.

By the time this technology is available and in use, gas will be more expensive anyway, not to mention the enviromental impact it is causing globally. Kioto will be every other nations problem then and we can take the high road without causing major calamity to our economy.

Hydrogen fuel is the answer to everyone’s concerns in this country, liberal and conservative alike. Now isn’t that interesting?

You don’t sound like near the broken record I am regarding energy. I ignored the pork in the 2005 Energy Act purely because of the emphasis on alternative fuels. I’m ready. I’m building a new house that will be 100% electric with every imaginable fuel efficient gizmo I can afford ( fuel cells, instant-on hot water, and the latest greatest central air with geo-thermal heat to boot ).

Keep preaching all you want, you’re preaching to the choir here. And that choir won’t stop singing until salvation has been realized.
