NO Police Take a vacation

I have seen several discussions criticizing the police and the Mayor of New Orleans for taking a vacation in the middle of this catastrophe. I have held out opinion of this because I really don’t know the details of what has been done to keep them from burning out. I do know two have committed suicide, so there’s definitely morale issues. The New York Times has an excellent article interviewing some of the police officers. I can relate to the officers wanting to be with their families. I still have a hard time buying the Las Vegas trips. What I also don’t see is any reference to grief counselors being made readily available for those policemen. I really can not believe that. Surely it’s just an omission?
