Political Payback?

So far the disaster that is New Orleans has pitted:

  1. Local governments against state and federal governments,
  2. State against federal and local governments,
  3. Federal government against state and local governments.
  4. Blacks against Bush
  5. George Galloway against the United States
  6. Local government against the Red Cross
  7. State government against the Red Cross
  8. Rappers against Bush
  9. Fat Directors against Bush
  10. Intellectuals supporting Bush
  11. Me against Nagin.
  12. Liberals against Conservatives ( What’s new? )
  13. Accusations of intentionally targeting the poor.

Etc, etc, etc.  The one very obvious divide that I am shocked, SHOCKED I tell you, is the obvious one that everyone seems to have missed.  Just look at the map:

Look familiar?  Note where New Orleans is.  Let’s look at it a little different now, shall we?

See my point? That blue blob is  the only congressional district to vote for Kerry in 2004.  Do I REALLY have to show the maps of Mississippi and Alabama?

( Just to be sure, this is PARODY! )

When all is said and done this map will be irrelevant. To rebuild New Orleans will require much stricter building codes as was the case after Andrew. The problem with that is the huge increased cost of construction will displace a vast majority of the poor to other locations. I suspect that the evacuated refugees will put down roots elsewhere as they will not be able to go back to New Orleans for at least a year. The genesis of New Orleans will be of working class middle income people who can afford to live in what will be a much more expensive residence due to the construction codes. The slums will never be rebuilt simply because the housing costs will be far to high to afford decent low income housing in this area. Poor people of all races and genders will be displaced due to the economic realities and not some clandestine political agenda as the press would have us beleive. The problems associated with unemployment, drugs, gangs and crime in general will be vastly curtailed primarily because the desperate people that tend to commit those acts will in essence be gone for good.I make no opinion one way or the other as to whether this is good or bad, it simply is an economic fact of life that can not be ignored nor should it be. I would be willing to bet the ranch that little blue spec is red come 2008.

I’m not willing to bet that ranch. But, I doubt New Orleans will have the same governor or mayor.
