Some goofball notes on the show.
- What was the deal about CCR tunes? I mean, they were from Los Angeles. "Born on the Bayou" and "Who’ll Stop The Rain" were good songs, but I liked "Have You Ever Seen The Rain" a lot more.
- I was impressed with Neil Young’s performance. However, I was surprised he was invited or even wanted to perform. This is the guy that totally trashed the South with "Southern Man". He didn’t perform that tonight. He also didn’t perform my favorite song of his, "Like a Hurricane".
- I’m not sure what Rod Stewart was singing, if it wasn’t, it should have been "Reason To Believe".
- Kanye West rapped and no one seemed to care. I didn’t. It was a good time to change the baby’s diaper. He didn’t politicize the cause this time. He’s learning.
- No one that I’m aware of did "Mississippi Queen". Louisiana was saluted by several songs, I’m sure Lynyrd Skynyrd will do "Sweet Home Alabama", but who’s doing a tribute for Mississippi? All the shows have not been shown, so there’s still hope. Green Day, this is YOUR chance to prove you can rock with the greats! I KNOW Dave Matthews and U2 can pull it off, let’s see what the kids can do.
The rest of the line-up is ok as well. I’ll hush my ramblings and just urge people to watch it, enjoy it, and call in a pledge or two. Just like voting, nothing says you can’t do it more than once and feel good about it.
