My position on Harriet Miers

I really haven’t said much on the nomination of Harriet Miers. That’s because my opinion doesn’t really fall into the ongoing rhetoric of polarized extremes. I stated how I felt on The Motley Fool, here it is for your consumption:
People who aren’t quite so rhetorical are believing, that she was someone close to him who he trusts. Roberts wasn’t some obscure character from Texas who Bush pulled out of a hat, he was someone who Bush was well experienced with. Bush relies a lot on his trust of others. That’s not such a bad thing. He said he would name a minority, he did. He said he was looking for someone with the same background as Reinquist, he did ( non-judge ). Even tho he stated that with the Roberts nomination, I don’t think he changed his mind. A lot of people had pre-selected who they wanted, there was no way Bush was going to satisfy everyone. I’m just jaded in that no matter who was picked, I knew they would be crucified. Conservatives wanted an ultra-neocon, Liberals wanted to wait for the next president. Women wanted a woman, men wanted a man. Latinos wanted a Latino. Blacks wanted someone of African-American descent. I’m sure Eskimos wanted an Eskimo. The problem with a poorly defined choice only is that they don’t appeal to a broad spectrum of ideologies. Bush went with someone he trusted instead of political pressure. My bet is he gets what he wanted moreso than if he had relied on politics. Sure, there are more qualified candidates now, but there were when Reinquist was nominated as well. Does that mean Reinquist was a poor choice?
