Dr. Kamau Kambon

Dr. Kamau Kambon recently spoke at Howard University and had this to say:
And then finally I want to say that we need one idea, and we’re not thinking about a solution to the problem. We’re thinking about all these other things, but we’re not dealing with a solution to the problem. And we have to start to think about a solution to the problem so that these young brothers and sisters who are here now, who are 15, 16 or 17, are not here 25 years later talking about these same problems
Now how do I know that the white people know that we are going to come up with a solution to the problem? I know it because they have retina scans, they have what they call racial profiling, DNA banks, and they€™re monitoring our people to try to prevent the one person from coming up with the one idea. And the one idea is, how we are going to exterminate white people because that in my estimation is the only conclusion I have come to. We have to exterminate white people off the face of the planet to solve this problem. Now I don€™t care whether you clap or not, but I€™m saying to you that we need to solve this problem because they are going to kill us. And I will leave on that. So we just have to just set up our own system and stop playing and get very serious and not be diverted from coming up with a solution to the problem and the problem on the planet is white people.
Last month it was the bizarre outburst by Kanye West. Not long before that it was a hate filled rant by Sister Souljah. Heck, even the Black Panthers are supposedly getting back together.
What’s the deal here? Exactly what IS the problem all these people are calling for violence to resolve? According to Kambon, it’s retina scanning. According to Kanye west, it’s because hurricanes hit where black people live. According to the Black Panthers, it’s because, get this:
We also recognized that we live in a country which has become one of the most repressive governments in the world; repressive in communities all over the world. We did not expect such a repressive government to stand idly by while the Black Panther Party went forward to the goal of serving the people. We expected repression.
That makes no sense to me either. They’re advertising their views for all the world, read their "repressive government", and no one cares. They are not being repressed in any way. Hurricances strike white people just as equally as black people. Retina scans don’t care if you’re black or white. White people that call for the extermination of black people are ostracized by white people. But, for inexplicable reasons, black people that call for the extermination of white people are given podiums to speak on, media outlets to spread their views, and, even more inexplicably to me, some white people will agree with them ( read Eminem. ) What part of Martin Luther King’s vision did they miss? How do they explain people like Condi Rice and Colin Powell? How do they explain the fact that the reason people like Sister Souljah can spend all her time preaching hate is because she made so much money selling music?
Here’s my take on things in 2005. Things aren’t any worse for black people in today’s society than white people. Sure, white people have the leg up because some of their families have family inheritances to pass on to their kids. But, that doesn’t prevent one single black person from succeeding if they choose to do so. The problem of the black community is not white people repressing them, it’s the Dr. Kambon’s, Kanye West’s, and Sister Souljah’s telling their people that they can not succeed because they are repressed. Those that are not motivated to succeed under the terms of our society will use them as their scapegoat and ignore the Bill Cosby’s, Oprah Winfreys, Condi Rice’s, Colin Powell’s, Tiger Woods’, and numerous other black people that have succeeded.
At this time in our society, I challenge Dr. Kambon to give me one concrete example of how black people are repressed by our government. I have already given him the leg up in that I have cited numerous people who have already proven him wrong. I will also challenge Dr. Kambon, Kanye West, and Sister Souljah to do their society some good and motivate people who look up to them to be the best they can be instead of blaming others for not succeeding, or even trying to. Life is never going to hand anyone everything they want just for being born. That is not evidence that you’ve been repressed. Trust me on this people, if you are the best you can be, no one will ever be able to repress you in the USA. That’s the message young black kids need to be hearing. Not one that represses them.

First off: Kanye West was NOT saying that “hurricanes hit where black people live”. He was protesting the slow reaction of FEMA under the Bush system. And don’t say that reaction was not slow or that no one expected the damage in New Orleans… Bush specifically said he took full responsability for the mistakes done after Hurricane Katrina. Second… black people HAVE been repressed. NOT by our government, but by the MEDIA and REPRESENTATIVES of the government. During the aftermath of Katrina, we all read how headlines would advertise white people who looted as “people looking for food”, while black people were described simply as “looters.” One particularly disgusting memory I have is that of Michael Savage (or Savidge, I forget) making a report, going down to New Orleans ONE DAY after Katrina to make a report on how even the cops were looting. The only white guy he talked to there, he asked “Are you only taking what you need?” But when he approached one african-american boy who was looking at some sweaters, has said “Those don’t look quite your color” (they were pink sweaters). But goodness… these people were looking for FOOD AND SHELTER! And they were bashed by the media. Now, on repression… in a way Kambon is right; not about the killing white people though; instead, he is correct in saying how the “government” has seeked to kill black people in many different ways. Maybe it’s extremely indirect, but it’s an attempt anyway. For example: the biggest hospital in COMPTON, California was shut down recently (King-Drew Hospital). This obviously puts the lives of MANY at risk. In my opinion, you can never have enough hospitals. Yet that one closed. Why didn’t they close one near a community known for having much fewer black people like let’s say… Beverly Hills? Westwood? Bel Air? Brentwood? Instead, they went into the heart of Compton, and closed the biggest hospital there. Now the closest one is on the other side of the city (East Los Angeles… and Westwood… both tens of MILES away). The Tuskeegee Experiment… this atrocity wasn’t revealed until someone not of the government revealed it. And now let’s talk about slave reparations… where are they? Where are the forty acres and the mule? They were never given out! Now, the country has LOTS of poor black people, obviously disadvantaged because of something now-rich white people did. You may say “well they could have picked themselves up by now like the whites”. WRONG! Remember they weren’t really given “equal” rights until the 60’s. The 1960s, not the 1860s. Thus they are picking themselves up… but with crappy medical care (e.g. no hospitals in their communities) and poor parents and grandparents… it’s gonna take another good amount of time before they pick themselves up completely… unless they’re given the reparations that they DESERVE for the prosperity this nation has achieved because of their ancestor’s sweat. And like I said, under this Republican Dubya system… which is trying to cut back social services to have more money for their failure of an illegal war… well, black people will be VERY disadvantaged. Oh yeah and about the Black Panthers… they were really trying to HELP their people… and the FBI and CIA decided “no, black people don’t deserve better lives, even if they are trying to help THEMSELVES.” These are the same morons who didn’t stop the terrorists from making the attacks on US soil… the same morons who helped put Saddam Hussein in the Iraqi throne in the ’60s. The same morons who crippled my home country Guatemala during the ’50s with communism and cheap labor. They’re not the government. I have respect for the entity of the government. “Freedom of speech, equal rights, guaranteed assistance in my time of need.” The problem arises when politicians and agencies, calling THEMSELVES “the government”, try to take away these rights and repress the people.

What does that have to do with Kambon wanting to exterminate white people? Does what Kanye West somehow justify it?
Secondly, Kanye West’s comments were inappropriate for the event he was at. If he wants to give political speeches, don’t do it at the expense of the people he’s supposed to be helping.
Lastly, both Kanye West and Kambon are completely wrong.
Was FEMA any faster in the “white parts” of Florida that Rita just hit? Seems I’m hearing the exact same complaints there as the “black parts” of New Orleans.
The “slow response” of FEMA is more people’s uninformed opinions of what FEMA is supposed to be versus what FEMA actually is. As long as people refuse to understand the true function of FEMA, they’ll continue to come up with conspiracy theories that are based in nothing but imagination.

It has nothing to do with Kambon saying we should exterminate white people… heck, I’m pretty much against that part of his speech. Nobody’s perfectly good or perfectly evil though… some of his speech was correct, in a way. Like I said, politicians, by calling themselves “the government”, sometimes try to pass some laws which limit the liberty of the minorities.
Second, Kanye West’s statements were absolutely appropriate. It was HIS opinion. Unfortunately, many people who were watching this show decided against donating because of Kanye… the Red Cross had NOTHING to do with Kanye’s opinion; yet people who were offended by what Kanye said thought: “Well, screw New Orleans. That’ll teach Kanye to keep his mouth shut!” Of course, this goes against 1) freedom of speech, and 2) intelligence.
Okay, yes, FEMA’s response was slow and crappy to both white and black people in New Orleans. The point is Bush said it was his fault, and the media pointed their racist cameras at blacks more than at whites (Michael Savidge example).
Also, the difference between what FEMA actually is and what FEMA is supposed to be costs lives. I think that an organization which is supposed to respond to disasters (natural and man-made) should probably do it with more speed that it is required to take… for the sake of the population and their reputation. But hey, they’re free to do what they want… as we the people are free to criticize them.

I have no problem with Kanye expressing his views. It was the timing of his expressing his views I have a problem with. He brought a very negative political view into a charity fundraising event. Not good for raising money. Very inappropriate. If he wants to sing about it, sing all night and day. Just don’t bring politics into charitable giving. If people decided not to donate because of Kanye, that’s the same right they have as Kanye had to blurt out his politics while appealing for sympathy. There were many other charities appealing for help, I’m sure those people, such as I, donated to one of them.
The big difference, as you noted, is that Bush accepted responsibility the problems in New Orleans. Kanye was blaming others. I am much more receptive to people who accept responsility than people who point fingers.
If Bush truly hated blacks, as Kambon and West accuse him of, then how do they explain the fact that more blacks servce in the upper administration in Bush’s administration than any other administration in the history of this country? His most trusted advisor is Condi Rice. She replaced Colin Powell. Thanks to Bush, Condi Rice is possibly the most powerful female in the country at this time. She also happens to be black. She is also being tossed around as a potential 2008 Presidential candidate ( and one that I support most ). She’s done awful well considering her boss hates her.
Point blank, West and Kambon are both flat wrong and there is a lot more evidence to prove they are wrong than there is to prove they are right. This type of garbage is what is polarizing the US and needs to stop right now.

I grew up respecting all races. Over the years, I have gradually changed. When someone like Kambon makes statements suggesting he and his ilk should “kill white people” I can only suggest he should be looking over his shoulder.

The problem is, I think people like Kambon have been looking over their shoulders for a long time. The problem is, there was never anything to look for. Think Pink Floyd’s line “I caught a fleeting glimpse out of the corner of my eye”. The problem is, some people don’t recognize what the true problem with Kambon is and take them seriously.

Its people like this man that make the word nigger necessary. There is a difference in a black man and a nigger and this guy is definitely a nigger. A man with a PhD and he actually preaches something as absurd as exterminating a people. OK Hitler, go ahead and try you piece of shit!
