Plaming the CIA

The European Union has demanded Washington address claims of secret prisons to allay fears of illegal U.S. practices among the European public and parliaments, already critical of U.S. prisoner-abuse scandals in Iraq and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

For a month, the United States has been on the defensive, refusing to deny or confirm media reports it has held prisoners in secret in Eastern Europe and transported detainees covertly through airports across the continent.

The problem I have with the EU is that they spend too much time bitching and whining about rumors of how the US deals with people who cut people’s heads off and not enough time worrying about people who cut people’s heads off.  If they did worry more about people who cut people’s heads off, then maybe the US wouldn’t have to quite as much.

As it is now, it seems the EU, particularly Germany and France, prefer to deal with people who cut people’s heads off.

And BTW, where is the media outrage over who outed the "secret" jails?

Based on Dr. Rice’s comments, it appears the US has decided to let Europe answer these questions for themselves. Jack Straw is a standup guy and made comments to the effect that the actions taken by the US were in fact legal.

Germany seems hell bent on being left off the list with respect to intellegence. They know damn well who and what were on those flights and were beneficiaries of the resulting intellegence. They now will have to face the facts that if they prefer to not be involved in the war on terror the can fight theirs alone. Dr. Rice made no bones about it and Germany can decide what to do for themselves. Had these secret missions not been outed by the New York Times, there would be nothing said about it. Trying to be PC in this war on terror will cause major problems and it is about time someone said so. If you don’t like the way we are handling things, just say so and you can deal with these people on your own terms without our help. If you want our help, it’s a 2 way street and we need co-operation. Failure to secure the co-operation of foreign governments releives us of the responsibility to advise them of imminent doom in their homeland. It will take 1 bomb to shut them up.

BTW I’ll bet you a carton of Marlboro’s and a fifth of Woodford Reserve Dr. Rice makes the Germans back down and kiss her ass. This woman is not to be trifled with and it appears her marching orders are to either get a commitment of co-operation or cut them off of intel. It’s put up or shut up time and Condi has bigger stones than Powell ever had. Any takers?

I’m not going to take that bet. The Germans have a new chancellor, and it’s a lady. From what I’ve heard from my German friends, she’s not quite as antagonistic towards the US as her predecessor was. My bet is things thaw out between the US and German heads of state. Now, controlling German politics and media is a totally different matter. We can’t shut our own people up, same thing goes with the Germans.

I Wonder if Dr.Rice will remind the Germans we need to update our numerous antiquated military bases, preferably in a country that is happy to have us.
