Speaking of Jack, Harry, and Nancy……

In regards to Jack Abramoff, Nancy Pelosi had this to say:
I can’t wait for her to explain this:
| Recipient | Cycle | Donor | Total |
| Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif) | 2004 | Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe | $2,000.00 |
| Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif) | 2002 | Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians | $1,000.00 |
| $3,000.00 |
Harry Reid had this to say ( not directly in relation to Abramoff ):
Harry Reid accepted money from Abramoff to the tune of:
| Recipient | Cycle | Donor | Total |
| Searchlight Leadership Fund, Leadership PAC of Harry Reid (D-Nev) | 2004 | Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe | $10,000.00 |
| Searchlight Leadership Fund, Leadership PAC of Harry Reid (D-Nev) | 2004 | Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians | $7,500.00 |
| Searchlight Leadership Fund, Leadership PAC of Harry Reid (D-Nev) | 2004 | Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians | $5,000.00 |
| Harry Reid (D-Nev) | 2004 | Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe | $4,000.00 |
| Harry Reid (D-Nev) | 2004 | Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians | $2,000.00 |
| Searchlight Leadership Fund, Leadership PAC of Harry Reid (D-Nev) | 2002 | Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians | $2,000.00 |
| $30,500.00 |
Man, this is going to be fun!

And you and I both know that people like Hastert, DeLay, Ney and a few currently unnamed politicians from the party currently in power are also doing the Michael Jackson “moonwalk” to get as much distance between themselves and Abramoff as possible.
Both sides of the aisle will be implicated. My opinion is that this will tarnish all politicians in many peoples’ minds, especially incumbents.
But, you are correct, it will be interesting to see how the Democrats (and Republicans) who took/received money from Abramoff deal with their “problem.” Hastert made a charitable donation.

As I noted earlier, some politicians simply took the low road and donated the money to charities. Others such as Pelosi and Reid are making a political issue out of it. IMO, those are the ones that will get burned the worse in the long run. And, given the plethora of blogs and O’Reilly’s, it probably won’t be all that long.

This entire “thing” is going to reverberate for months if not years.
It will very likely change lobbying rules forever.
It will change certain access to Congressional Offices and staffs.
I believe that it will affect the 2006 election (perhaps significantly).
I believe that it will change the way that business is done in Washington DC.

That’s what they said about the Clintons renting out every bed in The White House as well. Net change, nothing tangible.
I was listening to the radio today and amid baby shouts was listening to someone on Foxnews that suggested what I have felt all along. Instead of tightening access to Washington, open the doors wide open so that special interests aren’t the only ones who can write a check. Let the average person give unlimited donations. Just eliminate PAC’s and 527’s entirely as they would serve no purpose.
I like that idea so much I might just start advocating it.
