NBC looking long and hard for racism

OK, the gist of what happened here. Dateline sent some Muslims to a race in Martinsville, Virginia. They wanted a fight and figured the most likely place to get one was a redneck capitol of the South, a NASCAR race. What they found out was their prejudices didn’t pan out. The real heart and soul of anti-Muslim sentiment is not being festered and promoted by the average race-loving redneck. I mean, come on NBC, THINK for just one second. In the South, we LOVE our races. Car races, truck races, horse races, we LOVE ALL RACES. The REAL heart and soul of the anti-Muslim sentiment is NBC news stoking a story that isn’t there by relying on their OWN prejudices. Now, best I can recall, Dateline’s the same people who offered us the horrific New Jersey floods of last year. I’m tired of media creating stories. That’s not their job. Until I see a Muslim wearing traditional garb anchoring NBC stories in the US, they have no right pointing their finger at anyone else. Let them measure anti-Muslim sentiment at their own peril instead of poisoning something else. Dateline’s ethics are abominable. Where’s the FCC when we need them?
I just wish I could sit in on the NBC/NASCAR negotiations next year. Something tells me Nascar will be getting a new broadcaster.

NBC is looking long and hard for ratings more than anything else. They are also losing some race coverage as NASCAR grows even bigger.

I know that point is obvious about looking for ratings. But, as bad as they got burned in the past for rigging stories, you’d THINK they would have realized, from a purely business sense, that it doesn’t work and runs the very real risk of undermining the credibility of the show to the point it couldn’t generate revenues. Just seems obvious to me. The reason Fox got their foot in the door was because of the perceived biases of CNN and network news. Rather than address the obvious weakness of marketing their product, it seems like they all have just dug in harder and got themselves in an even harder hole to dig out of. I just don’t get it. That’s why I didn’t address the obvious.

What NBC should do is take a couple of tried and true NASCAR fans straight out of the stands at Bristol complete with all of their NASCAR attire and drop them at the Masters. Now that would be interesting to watch. Can anyone say reverse discrimination?

Or just as well do both. Drop some Masters fans in Bristol. See how it works from both sides. But, I did like what I read on some of the bigger blogs. Why didn’t NBC do the OBVIOUS and drop some Nascar fans in Iraq? Does NBC TRULY think the only racists in the world are average white guys from the South?
Sheezus, that is SO cliche. They need to look in the mirror if they honestly feel that way. And for goodness sake, stay out of the Middle East.

There are probably more NASCAR fans serving in Iraq than golf fans.

I’d bet that’s a no-brainer ( most golf fans I know are too old to serve! )
