Bush’s investigation into gas price gouging?

Posted by Moonage on 03 May 2006 | Tagged as: Oil Policy

ORIGINAL POST - 04/25/06:

President Bush, under pressure to do something about gasoline prices that are expected to stay high through the summer, ordered an investigation into possible cheating in the markets. The government also asked states on Tuesday to guard against unfair pricing

Now, I expect this to go nowhere fast. Not because Bush is bought and owned by big oil, but because the exact opposite, so many people are. I posted on my discomfort with Exxon particularly profiting $30 billion. Was I joined in a big throng of the masses shouting “DOWN WITH EXXON!”? No. I was picked on by by and large by “the learned” people who were quick to justify Exxon’s largesse and profit making in the midst of the world bitching about gas prices. Although the media is starting to get on the gas price bitching bandwagon, they’re still trying their hardest to look the other way as well. Blame it on ANYONE but the guy making $30 BILLION. Blame it on Bush because he once had oil stock or some other contrived logic. But, whatever you do, don’t look at the guy making $30 BILLION. Making $30 BILLION is just a free economy at work, right?

Folks, there’s a fine line between free economy and collusion and racketeering. This investigation will go nowhere not because of Bush, but because there’s no grass roots support for it. So, when it does wind up disappearing due to lack of interest, don’t blame Bush, blame the media and yourselves for being so quick to dismiss anything Bush does that 67% of the country won’t support any initiative he asks for. I want this investigation in the worst way. I want it to mean something. But, I know how politics in the beltway works. Everyone there already has their cop-out for not pissing off their generous donors. That cop-out is you.

These are the people expected to initiate the investigation. Next to their name is what they have received so far in this election cycle from Oil and Gas companies.

You need to be heard by the masses. Because, you laid it out there the way it should be. It was exciting to finally hear someone who isn’t some tree hugger, whining about their civil liberties being violated. Oh, but they want to be certain that they’re safe from any terrorist attacks. These cowards call out from the cheap seats always. And finally, these dip shit people need to give Bush some credit and get off his back for awhile. Take care.
