Washington Post negotiating for Hezbollah?

This is just nuts. David Ignatius of the Washington Post has garnered a certain amount of criticism in the blog world for telling Condi Rice how to stop the Israeli/Hezbollah conflict. His plan is simple, accept the Hezbollah offer. Now, I’ve got a serious problem with David’s idea. Well, actually, I’ve got several. The primary being that Hezbollah supposedly was organized in 1982 to fight the Israeli occupation of Lebanon. In 1990, the Israelis agreed to leave Lebanon, in essence, agreeing to Hezbollah’s demands. In exchange, Hezbollah agreed to disarm their military. So, David, where did all these missiles come from?
I think it’s quite evident how seriously Hezbollah takes a ceasefire. There will be peace until Hezbollah once again thinks it can destroy the Israelis. That’s all.
Secondly, I find it quite odd that David thinks the US dealing with a terrorist organization that represents no country would stop the Israelis from dealing with the Lebanese. Clue here David, it won’t. Although the US could pressure on Israel, the Lebanese are the ones being attacked. It’s up to them to do the negotiating, not the terrorist organization. That’s just stupid David. If Condi recognizes the Hezbollah terms as you assert she should, the Lebanese government is dead and Hezbollah will rule an entire country, including their entire military. Is that what you truly want?
Third, the US, I can’t believe I’m telling David this, has declared a war against terrorism. Hezbollah is a terrorist organization. Get the problem here David? We’ll deal with Lebanon on how to deal with their terrorist problem. What Condi did when she went to Beirut was tell the world that the US WILL deal with Lebanon. We will NOT deal with Hezbollah.
When those terms come from Beirut and NOT Syria or Iran, then we should talk. Until then, let the bombs continue to fall.
And lastly, what David, and ALL of media seem to ignore, is there IS a ceasefire in effect right now. What good would another one do? Until Hezbollah respects the ceasefire THEY agreed to in 1990, what’s the point of yet another one? Huh David? How many times do people like you need to be fooled?
I find it quite disturbing that someone paid to work for a prestigious publication such as the Washington Post doesn’t know how to Wiki. Of course, I’m not naive enough to assume that he even wanted to.
