Playing Oddball with Chris Matthews

Last night I got the rare opportunity to cruise tv during prime time. I rarely get to do this any more. So, given the opportunity, I pounced. I started with CNN, it was regurgitating today’s headlines. I can read them here, so it bored me. Foxnews was doing a special report that featured nothing but commercials. Then, I struck gold with the ever reliable MSNBC. Hardball with Chris Matthews was on and he had a line-up that kept me laughing for the 20 minutes or so I had to spare. He had Bob Shrum on. Now, I have been a big fan of Bob Shrum for about as long as this blog has been going. A couple of years ago I did a thingy on the Shrum Curse. It seems every presidential candidate Shrum has advised since 1972 has lost. This curse is so well established that I predicted Kerry’s loss even when he was leading in the polls. Polls are irrelevant when faced with the tide of history. Bob Shrum’s record is so impeccable that http://politics.moonagewebdream.com/2005/10/13/john-kerrys-done-for/” target=”_blank”>I have already predicted Kerry’s demise in 2008 because Ted Kennedy has endorsed him already. That means Shrum will be there. That means whoever Shrum is with will lose. Shrum’s record of being wrong led me to even enjoy a quip about him being on The Today Show and giving Bush advice when all seemed completely hopeless. Bush ignored his advice, his ratings improved.

So, imagine my chuckles when I saw that Chris Matthews has the losingest advisor in the history of the United States as his “Hardball political expert”. That should tell ya something right there. It just couldn’t get any better than that.

But wait.

It did.

You know who was “countering” Bob Shrum? Can you believe Pat Robertson? Yup, the “conservative” voice was a guy who fairly recently advocated killing Hugo Chavez publicly. It got so bad that Shrum took to stroking Robertson’s ego at the end.

Does anyone really take Hardball seriously? I mean, this skit was funnier than Saturday Night Live’s news shows this decade. I really mean that.
