Beware of casting false stones

The Dems are all over Mark foley and anyone that ever was in his presence. Notably Dennis Hastert.  Their logic is that since Hastert knew Foley, and knew Foley had done some questionable things, he should have, for lack of a better word, fired Foley even though Foley hadn’t broken any laws.  However, they better be kind of careful going this route:

Some Florida Democrats called Kevin King a rising star amongst the ranks of Democrats, but others, like the head of the Pinellas Democratic Party, Ed Helm, had doubts.

King was arrested in 2001. A judge ordered the St. Petersburg Police Department to seal all records regarding the arrest. King admits that the arrest stems from when he was a substitute teacher. He was arrested for computer solicitation to commit a lewd and lascivious act and two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

According to published reports, King sent e-mails or instant messages to two female students, aged 14 and 15, trying to get them to skip school and drink alcohol with him. In addition, the reports say that King also asked the 14-year-old to perform a sexual act on him.

King, who admits he was arrested, insists he did nothing wrong and points to the fact that the records were sealed and he was not found guilty of anything. King would not appear on camera for this story.

Public records obtained from the Pinellas School District state that it was initially substantiated that he was committing or convicted of a felony. King convinced the school district to change the record to say that it was €śmisconduct in office where a student was related.€ť

King resigned his paid position in the Democratic Party after the primaries to care for his parents. Two weeks ago, however, he was elected a Democratic committee member position in Pinellas County. The position concerns Ed Helm, who had earlier asked the Florida Democratic Party leadership to relieve him of his duties in Pinellas County, €śor terminate him.€ť

This information comes in the wake of scandals involving disgraced former Congressman Mark Foley (R-Florida). Foley allegedly sent inappropriate e-mails and instant messages to former male teenage pages during his time in Washington.

The problem they’ve got here is that, from what I can gather so far, Foley was careful not to break any obvious laws.  The "children" appear to have been of legal consent age.  Although lurid and perverse, this may not go any farther once all the hubbub dies down.  And, the Dems are calling for Hastert’s and others’ heads even though he demanded Foley’s resignation the very day he received the full story.  Before that, it was kinda weird, but not legally bad.  The rest of the Republicans have distanced themself from Foley as far as they possibly can as quickly as they could.

In the Pinellas situation, the Democrats knew this guy’s mess and have kept him involved in the party.  Foley and King’s situations so far are similar, however Nancy Pelosi et al have made it an issue to attack Republicans excusively.  Did no Democrats ever associate with Foley?  Pelosi claims she wants to clean up the mess in DC.  However, she constantly refuses to look at issues outside of the Republcan Party.  That’s not going to clean anything up.

I’m not really waiting for the media frenzy to run amok on Pinellas County.  Anyone want to comment with how many reasons why there won’t be a media frenzy on Democrats with similar issues?

I’m not saying people can never make a mistake here, everyone does.  However, Foley’s career is over.  I doubt he’s ever going to get a second chance in politics.  Whipping this dead dog politically disgusts me.  And, by assuming guilt by association, that’s all they’re doing at this point.  There is no way Pelosi can assure the US that others aren’t doing the same thing now, or will in the near future.  Because, if she did know it was happening now, and doesn’t do anything, she is what she’s accusing Hastert of doing.  If she does know, and DOES something about it, she’ll wreck the Dems chances in November ( and her Majority position ).  Are we to assume she’ll do what’s right at the expense of power?

Yeah, right.
