Faggots and the world markets

Got two headlines today.  Just sorta sums up my opinion of the media in general:

Wall Street Storm Warning

Investors worry market slide that has more than erased all of this year’s gains will continue as global markets take major hits.

Immediately following that is the question everyone has on their mind given the serious storm warning looming:

Edwards Reacts to ‘Faggot’ Remark

Democratic presidential hopeful condemns author Ann Coulter’s barb but is tight-lipped about his opinion of her.

Instead of pushing people to think more about things, it seems the media in general just keeps shooting for the lowest common denominator.  Did anyone expect Edwards to do anything BUT condemn her remarks?  How important will this childish exchange seem when the ramifications hit from the first headline?
