Paying for Congressional families’ trips

This one just boggles me.
OK, so in her effort to clean up the Republican Culture of Corruption, Nancy Pelosi is wanting to expand Congressional perks and hide the public’s ability to question earmarks. That’s just this week.
I honestly haven’t dug too deep into this issue. But, I got to wonder, will this include partners of the gay Representatives? What about significant others for those Representatives in open relationships? Pets?
I don’t think her request was too well thought out. However, I’m watching CNN and MSNBC for the rest of the story.
Author’s note: I thought I had the scoop on this since I read some really boring stuff, however, I was wrong:

On the otherhand…if a Congressman is a widower and is on an official trip during which his wife might otherwise have a role, is it appropriate for the Congressman’s daughter, son or his sister to take the role?

Hello.
I would consider it a privilege if you would add my blog “The Tygrrrr Express” http://www.blacktygrrrr.wordpress.com to your list of linked sites if you feel the quality is high.
Happy June.

It really depends on the trip, how it’s arranged, and who it’s to see. Depending on the culture of the visit, it can be determined that a family member is appropriate and if the wife is not available, one of them could go. Additionally, members can take members of their family if their wife is not available, but it would come out of their expenses. Children go all the time. That’s not the issue. The issue is Nancy promised to cut wasteful spending and is now demanding the Pentagon carry the expense regardless of who goes. Although great potentially for the kids, there really is no need for ANY family to go. Areas that she wants cut are military and homeland security. Which is more important?
