Clinton 2008

Hillary broke down again in Maine on Saturday as a Vietnam Vet spoke.  Now, the cynical in me tells me that she is playing the human card way too hard due to all the criticism of being a cold-calculating beotch.  However, that’s way too easy.  And, since it’s obviously not worked too well anywhere other than New Hampshire, it wouldn’t make any sense to keep working it.  She’s a lot smarter than that.  The more rational side of me is coming to a much bigger conclusion, and it’s probably a lot uglier.

I don’t think she’s handling this campaign too well.  Not from the perceived political angle due to the firing of her top manager or anything like that.  But, from a personal perspective.  It goes a lot deeper.  Let’s go back sixteen years to start with .  The Clintons were the outsiders given no chance to win and very little initial coverage or recognition.  As the campaign wore on and the other candidates started tripping up, the Clintons ( primarily Bill ), could do no wrong.  If Bill said he didn’t inhale, the audiences went wild.  If he said he wore boxers instead of briefs, the audiences, and the media, went wild.  There was nothing they could do wrong.  Bill was implicated as being a womanizing, sexual-harassing, drunk and the nobody cared.  They just cheered whenever he opened his mouth.  Once in, Hillary immediately tried to socialize medical care, she got totally trashed in her efforts ( well deserved tho ).  Bill danced right on by.  No one ever tied that fiasco to Bill, ever.  Still don’t even though he was President and she wasn’t.  When Bill got caught with his pants down, it was Hillary’s “Right Wing Conspiracy” that stole the show.  Bill, other than a Congressional mild spanking, danced on by, Hillary looked like an idiot for defending him.

Once out of the White House, Hillary ran for the Senate in New York and won.  A huge accomplishment for any person.  Playing in the background, Hillary enjoyed a free ride for eight years while the Bush ship barely floated in the public opinion polls.  After eight years, Hillary made her move for the White House.  With a well crafted image and the best talent money could buy, she started her campaign on cruise control.  Then along came Barack.  Barack admitted to doing drugs, the crowds cheered.  He admitted to being a little wild when he was younger, the crowd cheered.  He commits to doing nothing as President and the crowds go wild.  No matter what Barack says, does, or doesn’t do, the media eats him up.

For someone with the massive ego it takes to be a national level politician, this has gotta hurt.  A lot.  There really doesn’t seem to be much Hillary can do about it, again.  So, you put on your happy face and throw yourself to the dogs one more time knowing they’re going to bite.  Or worse, they’re going to give you some sob story that you know, if things keep going the way they are, there is basically nothing you’ll be able to do to help them.  And the bottom line is no matter how heart-wrenching their appeal to you is, they may not even bother voting for you come election day.  But, while those cameras are on, you’ll have to be the sucker one more time and force yourself to believe that they love you and will vote for you every time just because you listened to their public appeal for help.

Either Hillary’s so tough she can’t accept what’s happening right now, or, she’s become such a nervous wreck she can’t handle one more sob story.  Or both.  Either way, this weekly tear-letting is convincing people like me that she’s becoming unglued.  And, that’s the very last thing she needs right now.
