The situation in Myanmar/Burma clearly shows how ineffectual and impotent the United Nations actually is. I never thought I would EVER say this, but I applaud France for pushing to enact the UN's "right to protect." It's a shame for the Burmese people that their country has little to offer anyone (Oil) to make them worth any effort on the part of any developed nation's to remove a disgusting and oppressive regime. If this tragedy isn't the excuse needed for the world community to act on installing a true, decent and effective government for the oppressed people of Burma/Myanmar or whatever the PEOPLE would like to call it when they actually have a say, what will it take? As a proud American who has spent my life serving my country, I may, at times, complain about our own problems with governmental leadership, but the "leaders" of the government in place in Myanmar are truly VILE and should be dealt with accordingly by the rest of the civilized world. It should be done with no expectations of profit from resources or corporate gain. It's just the decent thing to do.
