The benefit as I see it was it allowed her to protect herself from any accusations that her meddling in the US intelligence gathering capabilities led directly to 9/11. As such, it protected President Clinton as well. Therefore, she received appointments to other boards that paid her quite well. I've never researched Schlumberger because the actions of Gorelick speak for themselves. Good luck with that.
