Some media are having a difficult time reacting to the charges by McCain that they are completely and unashamedly pushing their candidate.  They have discussed it, they have debated, and some to a small degree, have admitted it.  If one has any doubts at all, all they need to is go to CNN’s front page this morning and look at the headlines:

cnn081030

Obama is featured in no less than SIX headline articles.  Joe Biden’s mentioend in one.  The only mention of John McCain is CNN finding members of his own party criticizing him.

I don’t want to ever hear CNN make the claim they are an unbaised, fair, reporting media again.  Ever.  They’ve gone beyond biased to the point of poisoned.

Nancy Pelosi famously denied Democrats had any responsibility for the financial crisis that we are dealing with right now.  She stills sticks with that fantasy.  However, I don’t think too many people believe her.  Today the Washingtonwatch blog listed the members of Congress who voted for the 2000 Consolidated Appropriations Act which allowed trading credit default swaps by banning states from outlawing it.  Here’s the list of all the Representatives and Senators that voted for it:

That’s a final body count of 65 Republicans and 111 Democrats.  According to Pelosi, that’s still Bush’s fault.  Needless to say, as the final vote was 292-60, those Democrats get credit for pushing it through as 51 Republicans opposed the bill, only 9 Democrats did.  In other words, it wouldn’t have passed at all if it weren’t for the Democrats.

On December 21, 2000, it was signed into law by President Bill Clinton.  Wanna guess which party he’s a member of?

And don’t forget too, one of those Democrats to blame for this $700 billion bailout mess is now running for Vice-President of the United States.  Obama didn’t vote for it.  Lucky for him.  Only because he wasn’t a Senator yet.

What say you Nancy?

This one is precious.  First, we start with the evidence:

Via Fox

Via Fox

When it gets real fun is when you read her rap sheet.  She’s already in trouble for lying under oath to protect her nephew on manslaughter charges, tax evasion in the 90′s, and not reporting donations.  Apparently the people of her district tired of her shenanigans and voted her out in their primary.  That didn’t stop her tho, she’s running a write-in campaign.  Now, this is where it gets fun for me.  Regardless of the fact she has a long running criminal record and the fact her own voters wanted her out, she was still supported by Boston Mayor Thomas Menino and Gov. Deval Patrick.  Her supporters are suggesting that the timing of the charges was political.

Yeah.

I hear Nancy Pelosi has publicly suggested Wilkerson give up the write-in campaign and take care of her legal problems, and publicly chastised Thomas Menino and Deval Patrick for supporting a candidate who does not meet the lofty ethical standards Pelosi has established for her perfect party.

Realizing that her very public message that Democrats never had anything to do with the finance meltdown regardless of the fact their legislation and policies OBVIOUSLY caused it to the point even Bill Clinton personally accepted some blame, Nancy’s got a new gig:

“Elect us, hold us accountable, and make a judgment and then go from there. But I do tell you that if the Democrats win and have substantial majorities, Congress of the United States will be more bipartisan,” said Pelosi.

In the past I would have defined bipartisan for her, again.  However, it’s pianfully obvious she has no clue, and doesn’t care.  She can say anything, no matter how stupid, and get a free pass from most of the media.  If Bush had said this up until this fall, it would have been all over all media, SNL, and Letterman.  Now, that hat has been passed to Sarah Palin.  Nothing Palin has said is nearly as stupid as most of what Pelosi does say.  Where are the gags on SNL?  Why isn’t Keith Oblermann calling her the worst, Congressman, ever?  Why aren’t these side-splitting gags repeated on Letterman?  I mean, come on, Dave, this is easy stuff here.

Oh well, it’s not gonna happen any time soon.  There’s an election to get out of the way first.  Maybe if Nancy does have a more bipartisan Congress with very few members of the opposing party to deal with, she’ll no longer be in charge of the most unpopular Congress in the history of Earth.

If you watch CNN and most other media outlets, this race is over.  I’m not ready to go quite that far.  However, if it is, I gotta wonder what we are electing.  Obama just seems to collect baggage every day of late.  Now we’re looking at credit card fraud, which I don’t think is enough to derail an Obama presidency, but it could prove to be a distraction.  Add on to that this week’s other revelation, that he hangs out with terrorist sympathizers, and of course, his Marxist socialist philosophies.  Toss in Ayers, Jeremiah Wright, and a whole host of other fringe elements, and it seems to me that in addition to the very serious issues that will meet the new president in January, Obama’s going to have his hands full putting out completely unnecessary fires.  What this reminds me of is Clinton coming into office in 1993 with a whole slew of personal and legal problems that hounded him the entirety of his presidency.  It very often distracted from the message he was trying to push, and eventually crippled him his last two years in office.  The dangers he warned us about Iraq ( yeah, IRAQ! ), were largely ignored as a desperate attempt to distract from his legal problems.  George HW Bush came into office with basically no baggage at all, and the events of 2001 basically hijacked his entire presidency.  I can’t imagine what things would have looked like over the last seven years if he had had numerous personal and legal questions hounding him the entire time as well.  Whoever takes office in 2009 will have a popularity problem.  The economy is perilous, Russia is becoming more aggressive and antagonistic, and the conflicts in the Middle East will continue unabated.  It’s not a matter of how long we’ll be in Iraq, we’ll be in the Middle East for a long time.  It’s just too dangerous to ignore.  The social agenda of Obama will not be possible.  It’s just that simple and obvious.  If he attempts to raise taxes on anyone any time soon, The One will be crucified.  There is no way with the out of control federal budget he can cut taxes significantly.  With no additional revenues and no way of raising additional funds, any program he does try to create will either be unfunded or will take funding from other existing programs.  And, I’m here to tell you, you don’t mess with social programs without suffering wounds.  How long will people buy into “The One” without the big results he’s promised?  Change can happen.  But, it has to be done at the right time.  The Democrat social agenda of the last two years is a big part of what’s gotten us into this mess.  It’s not being written about much, but it is.  Look at the stock markets since Pelosi took over Congress.  Look at housing.  Look at unemployment.  Look at employment.  It’s no coincidence it all tanked.  They’ve added expenses to doing business and not given employers reason to hire.  It’s that simple.  With Obama’s message of spreading the wealth, that incentive to hire people will be under even more pressure.  How long will people see the economy slide before they tire of it?  How long will CNN and MSNBC protect The One when they start suffering from his policies as well?  That is when Ayers, Wright, the credit card fraud, and the numerous other issues Obama carries with him will mean something.  Additionally, following the natural cycle of politics, if the Democrats win big in 2008, expect the trend to start moving the other way in 2010.  If that does happen, as it did to the wildly popular Bill Clinton in 1995, that’s when that baggage becomes a real issue.  And, that baggage only makes it that much easier for the other side to reverse the trend.  Toss in the real scary issue of the Obama people already censoring media, and you can expect a rather nasty public backlash from the people who protected The One.

It’ll be interesting to watch tho.

UPDATE November 21, 2008:  The rather nasty public backlash is starting a lot sooner than I even expected.  But, basically in line with what I did expect.  I don’t like Kos so I don’t normally link there.  However, Daniel Halper apparently does read it and has several quotes.  As nasty as it’s already getting, I can’t wait to see what happens when Obama actually does name his cabinet.

It’s really sad how bad people’s interpretation of history becomes over a short period of time.  Namely, this dialogue bugs me:

In response to Obama wanting to spread the wealth, which is very well documented, Joe Biden had this to say:

“I was on a television station the other day doing a satellite feed to a major network in Florida, and the anchor quotes Karl Marx, and says in a sense, ‘Isn’t Barack Obama Karl Marx?’” Biden said. “You know, I mean, folks, this stuff you’re hearing, this stuff you’re hearing in this campaign, some of it’s pretty ugly. And some of the innuendo is pretty ugly.”

The exchange ins on Youtube, look it up if you want.  The interviewer didn’t say it exactly like that, but that was the gyst of it.  Now, where I’m getting kind of bugged with all this in particular is how Biden is reacting to it all.  First of all, they banned the station from ever doing another Obama or Biden interview.  That’s Big Brother stuff there.  If you ask a hard question, you cease to exist.

Second, and a much big issue to me, is the inference that comparing someone to Karl Marx is “pretty ugly” and worth being banned.  Now, if you actually knew your history, you’d know that Karl Marx wrote The Communist Manifesto.  This said nothing about evil intentions.  It simply envisioned a classless society.  The wealth generated by all went to the benefit of all.  Very simply idea.  Now, like it or not, Obama has spoken quite extensively about spreading the wealth.  There difference between Marx and Obama is simply a matter of degrees.  In Marx vision, it was a 100% deal.  No one was rich, no one was poor.  In Obama’s plan, there are still rich and poor.  The poor simply are better off than the poor are now.  The rich, not quite as rich.  So, I’m not going to go the Obama is communist route.  I don’t like his idea, but it’s not pure socialism.  It’s more socialist than what we have now.  So, knowing that Obama definitely has socialist tendencies, it’s wrong for Biden to say comparing Obama to Marx is “pretty ugly”.  He could have taken that thirty seconds to explain that communism and socialism are two seperate animals, and what Obama has in mind isn’t either one of those.  It’s a practice that has existed in the United States since its inception, it would just be a little more enforced through higher taxes on the wealthy.  Would that have been so hard?  It would have totally diffused the comparison by showing he had a grip on the topic and knew the difference.  As it is, I don’t think he was capable of comparing any of the social models of the past.

And, whether he likes it or not, that question is still on the minds of millions of Americans as just how close he wants to get to Karl Marx’s model.  And, given the circumstances, it’s certainly a lot easier to make the comparison of Obama’s political philosophies to those of Karl Marx than Abraham Lincoln.

And, of course, what bugs me just as much is there is probably not one main stream media group that will make the comparisons between Obama, Lincoln, and Marx.

This was sent to me by a friend:

While walking down the street one day a US senator is tragically hit by a truck and dies.

His soul arrives in heaven and is met by St. Peter at the entrance.

‘Welcome to heaven,’ says St. Peter. ‘Before you settle in, it seems there is a problem. We seldom see a high official around these parts, you see, so we’re not sure what to do with you.’

‘No problem, just let me in,’ says the man.

‘Well, I’d like to, but I have orders from higher up. What we’ll do is have you spend one day in hell and one in heaven. Then you can choose where to spend eternity.’

‘Really, I’ve made up my mind. I want to be in heaven,’ says the senator.

‘I’m sorry, but we have our rules.’

And with that, St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to hell. The doors open and he finds himself in the middle of a green golf course. In the distance is a clubhouse and standing in front of it are all his friends and other politicians who had worked with him.

Everyone is very happy and in evening dress . They run to greet him, shake his hand, and reminisce about the good times they had while getting rich at the expense of the people.

They play a friendly game of golf and then dine on lobster, caviar and champagne.

Also present is the devil, who really is a very friendly guy who has a good time dancing and telling jokes. They are having such a good time that before he realizes it, it is time to go.

Everyone gives him a hearty farewell and waves while the elevator rises…

The elevator goes up, up, up and the door reopens on heaven where St. Peter is waiting for him.

‘Now it’s time to visit heaven.’

So, 24 hours pass with the senator joining a group of contented souls moving from cloud to cloud, playing the harp and singing. They have a good time and, before he realizes it, the 24 hours have gone by and St. Peter returns.

‘Well, then, you’ve spent a day in hell and another in heaven. Now choose your eternity.’

The senator reflects for a minute, then he answers: ‘Well, I would never have said it before, I mean heaven has been delightful, but I think I would be better off in hell.’

So St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to hell.

Now the doors of the elevator open and he’s in the middle of a barren land covered with waste and garbage.

He sees all his friends, dressed in rags, picking up the trash and putting it in black bags as more trash falls from above

The devil comes over to him and puts his arm around his shoulder. ‘I don’t understand,’ stammers the senator. ‘Yesterday I was here and there was a golf course and clubhouse, and we ate lobster and caviar, drank champagne, and danced and had a great time. Now there’s just a wasteland full of garbage and my friends look miserable. What happened?’

The devil looks at him, smiles and says,

‘Yesterday we were campaigning…

Today you voted.’

Everyone remembers Mark Foley.  Mass media went nuts over his “issues” in 2006.  Some even say Foley single handedly cost Republicans the House.  So, what does the 21st century’s most “disgraced” Congressman do?  He endorses Obama.  Most political pundits are completely ignoring this endorsement.  The Obama campaign hasn’t released any statements on Foley either that I am aware of.  To top that off, the guy that beat Foley, Tim Mahoney, running on a “Family Values” campaign that obviously was a direct slap at Foley, has been outed on numerous extra-marital affairs and his wife has left him.  Obama’s not touting his support either.  In the meantime, this is how things have looked in the polls regarding Foley/Mahoney’s state:

FOX News/Rasmussen 10/19 – 10/19 1000 LV 3.0 48 49 McCain +1
SurveyUSA 10/16 – 10/16 553 LV 4.3 47 49 McCain +2
Research 2000 10/13 – 10/15 600 LV 4.0 49 45 Obama +4
CNN/Time 10/11 – 10/14 765 LV 3.5 51 46 Obama +5
InAdv/PollPosition 10/13 – 10/13 612 LV 3.8 48 44 Obama +4

What had been a strong surge by Obama has apparently been lost.

Now, the way I see things is, the Democrats made a huge investment in the “culture of corruption” issue in 2006, promising to do something completely impossible, rid Congress of corruption.  What has happened since 2006 is nothing has changed.  Instead of Mark Foley, they’ve got Tim Mahoney.  Where’s the change?

So, the answer to the post header is pretty obvious to me.  When Republicans go bad, the whole world knows it.  When Democrats go bad, most of the world never knows, and the rest don’t really care.  Mahoney will probably be OK, I hear he’s hiring William Jefferson’s PR team.  And just to back up my claim, I bet 50% more visitors come to this page by Googling “Bad Republican” than they do “Bad Democrat”.  I tagged both terms, so we’ll see.

Earlier this year, a pretty good flap was made over Barack Obama trying to understand country life.  He basically came to the conclusion that in order to live in places where people aren’t walking on top of each other, you had to be kind of bitter, and cling to things that aren’t made of concrete and steel.  John Kerry had a real problem with rural America four years before him.

Now, Jack Murtha is taking the ball and running with it:

Now, he has since tried to explain his comment, by stating that they aren’t necessarily racists, they were just rednecks a while back. My first thought, it’s time for the redneck special forces to “handle” this situation.
US Redneck Forces

However, a bigger issue is the Dems have pretty much put the screws to being a proud member of rural America. It’s very simple, if you don’t vote for Obama, you’re racist. If you live in rural America, you are not allowed to decide this election on any issue, period. You are either racist, or you’re not. You can not be conservative, pro-gun, anti-abortion, pro-states rights, or believe in a smaller, less intrusive federal government. And, you can not be offended by Obama previously insulting your heritage. All of that is out the window. You are, or you are not, racist. Period. If you vote for Obama, you’re not. If you vote for anyone else, you are. It’s no longer a red and blue state thing, it is black and not-black.

And, given most of main stream media could care less, Murtha’s narrow mindedness and bias will go unchecked allowing that sentiment to continue unabated. I’d like to think the good folks of Pennsylvania will do something about their obviously flawed representative, but I doubt they will. And, I don’t think Murtha came up with this insight, he just vocalized it.

And, to me, the purest sign someone is racist is when they assume everyone else is. If it’s on your mind that much, you’ve got a problem.

Here’s the shocker of a lifetime:

Hawaii Ending Universal Child Health Care After 7 Months

Two other shocking conclusions:

  • It cost a lot more than expected. ( When has a social program NOT cost more than expected? )
  • People who were already able to afford health care began to stop paying for it so they could get it for free,” said Dr. Kenny Fink, the administrator for Med-QUEST at the Department of Human Services. “I don’t believe that was the intent of the program.”

Whew.  Their epiphony just leaves me all spine tingly.  I’m not sure how Dr. Kenny Fink came to his conclusion.  I’m not sure what his previous position was.  However, to come to the conclusion that people, when given the option of saving $500 to $1,000 a month in premiums, in addition to out of pocket expenses, would opt to get the exact same care for free and be able to buy a very nice ride is, well, profoundly, amazingly, stupid.  I’m sure he, along with whoever dreamed up Med-QUEST didn’t realize as well is that a small employer would have a much happier employee if they gave that employee $500 a month instead of family coverage with the child probably getting better coverage.  And, I’m sure they didn’t realize as well that doctors, knowing their patient was covered for everything, would be remiss to not “check everything” since they would not have to deal with insurance adjusters.

Wishing every person had decent health care is admirable.  However, those that try to force it on every person never, ever, want to think of the ramifications.

The very real ramifications in Hawaii are most likely already:

  • medical obligations that could last for many years,
  • children with pre-existing conditions that will make it difficult to find private insurance on a whim’s notice now that Med-QUEST seems like a bad idea,
  • and, I’m sure, a lot of parents made financial obligations with that additional savings of health premiums that will put them in a real financial jam now that they will have to pick up coverage again.

Now, this all harks back to this election.  One candidate is promising universal health care that is mainly provided by funds from the private sector.  Has that candidate, and those that support him, figured that if they pass this thing, every single child in the US will probably wind up on it?  That I, as a parent, when given no option for substantially better health care for my child, would opt out of the private sector and let Obama foot the bill so I can drive a brand spanking new electric car that saves me a ton of money as well since I won’t have to contribute to the national and state road funds via the gas taxes?  In Hawaii, they have apparently come to the very obvious conclusion that greed often checks itself.  That when you eliminate one balancing force of greed, the scales simply fall to the other side.  By eliminating the greed of the insurance adjuster and actuarial, you simply opened the door for the greed of the doctors and consumers.  That’s all.  There no longer was any balance.  Socialists are always wrong because they can not understand that that greed exists in everyone no matter how overt or benign it may appear.  Although everyone loves to use “corporate greed” as the root of all evil on the planet, they refuse to acknowledge that it is the greed of someone like Kenny Fink, in thinking the government is the only entity, ergo himself assuring himself job security.  He’ll never admit that.  He never has to.  He is working for the “benefit of the people”.  As such, everything he does is guarded with the illusion he is providing a service that could not be performed by the private sector.

You want to eliminate government waste on a state level?  Demand all services be contracted out to the private sector and bid out annually with performance objectives well defined and enforced.  I’m talking all social services, medical services, law enforcement, legal, you name it.  Have all that information bid on by public openings with all bids and awards published on a public web site.

Then see how much it costs to run a state government.  Hell, if I had the state purchasing power, I’d make the state a profit every year.

Oddly enough, there’s only one state in the country that is making a profit right now.  And, oddly enough their governor is running against the ticket that wants to do for all of the nation what Hawaii’s done to their citizens.
