Nancy Pelosi famously denied Democrats had any responsibility for the financial crisis that we are dealing with right now.  She stills sticks with that fantasy.  However, I don’t think too many people believe her.  Today the Washingtonwatch blog listed the members of Congress who voted for the 2000 Consolidated Appropriations Act which allowed trading credit default swaps by banning states from outlawing it.  Here’s the list of all the Representatives and Senators that voted for it:

That’s a final body count of 65 Republicans and 111 Democrats.  According to Pelosi, that’s still Bush’s fault.  Needless to say, as the final vote was 292-60, those Democrats get credit for pushing it through as 51 Republicans opposed the bill, only 9 Democrats did.  In other words, it wouldn’t have passed at all if it weren’t for the Democrats. 

On December 21, 2000, it was signed into law by President Bill Clinton.  Wanna guess which party he’s a member of?

And don’t forget too, one of those Democrats to blame for this $700 billion bailout mess is now running for Vice-President of the United States.  Obama didn’t vote for it.  Lucky for him.  Only because he wasn’t a Senator yet.
