White House endorses Twitter, Facebook

The White House rolled out its snitch page today.  This is the page your neighbors and people you thought you could trust turn you in to the Truth Commission where you are at the very least ostracized publicly, or worse, put on the SEIU hit list.

But, to me, that’s the least of my concerns.  I have a problem with this:

white house twitter snitch

Down there on the bottom right hand of the page.  Stay Connected plugs facebook and twitter.  How much did they pay to get this White House endorsement?  Sure, others are accessible via the “more ways to share” button, but that’s nowhere near close to the billion dollar advertising freebiee facebook and twitter just got.  And, I gotta wonder, what if the Truth Patrol realizes all of the negative Obama stuff on facebook?  I mean, he’s doing rather poorly in most polls on facebook.  Will that eventually get facebook dumped for myspace?

Realistically, I think it’s a bad practice to feature private products over another on The White House level.  Myspace and the others have a real gripe here.  Were they offered the chance to bid on this advertising?  How did whoever at the Truth Commission here come to their decision?  Were they bribed?  How do we know?  Bad idea here.  It’s one thing to make yourself available to these services, but they should all be listed right there on the sidebar.  Or, more realistically, they should ALL have been on the “Ways to share” button.

You sound like a socialist. All companies should be treated equally and be given rainbows every year.

If a company does a better job, they should get the gig. Facebook and Twitter do better jobs.

A socialist would insist Facebook and Twitter be owned by The White House. So, I’m not following you here. What difference does it make which mousetrap is better? The one with the most effective advertising is the one that will sell the most. None of Facebook or Twitter’s competitors can buy the free advertising Facebook and Twitter have gotten. Who will the White House endorse next, CNN? Will we start seeing logos on Obama’s jacket?
