Pete Stark did his best in his effort to win the honor of most unhinged Representative.  It’s damn good too.  Hank Johnson going into obsessive detail over his concern of Guam tipping over ranks right up there as well.  Nancy Pelosi confidently assuring us that once we pass health care reform we’ll find out what’s in it is a personal favorite of mine, but didn’t seem to get much traction with the public.  Harry Reid confidently assuring us that losing 36,000 jobs could have been much, much, worse was pretty good as well.

Now, Ciro Rodriguez has jumped into the fray with his latest town hall chat:

Clue, perhaps?

A federal judge in Massachusetts tossed out the federal Defense of Marriage Act. His logic, get this, is it encroaches on states. Here’s Federal Judge Joseph Tauro’s Ruling On DOMA:
Federal Judge Joseph Tauro’s Ruling On DOMA
Now, this is where being conservative gets fun for me. I’m with Judge Tauro 100%. First, let’s clear the air a litte bit:

<a href="http://www.sodahead.com/united-states/is-marriage-a-constitutional-right/question-2081667/" onclick="javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackEvent','outbound-article','http://www.sodahead.com']);" title="Is marriage a Constitutional Right?">Is marriage a Constitutional Right?</a>

I’m going to answer that the same way every single time. My logic is simple. Go to the US Constitution, In this case, go to the part where it defines marriage. Read it aloud. Repeat it three times to make sure you clearly understand its intent. Don’t translate it. Don’t “intperpret” it. Just read it.

What’s that you say? It doesn’t discuss marriage?

Bingo.

Don’t give me some commerce crap that a person who gets married in Florida impacts life in Oregon. It doesn’t have to be that way. You think it does? OK, let’s go back to the US Constitution again and look at the part that says any company has the right to use the entire country as it’s cost basis.

What’s that you say? It doesn’t mention cost management?

Bingo.

Do I need to continue?

I don’t “support” gay marriage because of other reasons, mostly intangible reasons. But, I absolutely oppose the federal government sticking its nose where it doesn’t belong every single time. If every state in the nation decides to ban gay marriage, that’s another issue entirely and they have the right to that. But, that does not condone the Defense of Marriage Act.

The next question is whether Obama/Holder will challenge Judge Tauro’s decision. My bet is no. And if he does, as with Arizona, he will lose.

Online Surveys & Market Research

1943.

There were no Civil Rights Acts.  For that matter, there weren’t even 50 states.  The world was at war.  Israel didn’t exist.  Everything ran on coal.

That was also the last time West Virginia elected a Republican Senator in a regular election.

Candidate Year Party
W. Chapman Revercomb 1943 Republican
Harley Kilgore 1946 Democrat
Matthew Neeley 1949 Democrat
Harley Kilgore 1952 Democrat
Robert Byrd 1958 Democrat
Jennings Randolph 1958 Democrat
Jennings Randolph 1960 Democrat
Robert Byrd 1964 Democrat
Jennings Randolph 1966 Democrat
Robert Byrd 1970 Democrat
Jennings Randolph 1972 Democrat
Robert Byrd 1976 Democrat
Jennings Randolph 1978 Democrat
Robert Byrd 1982 Democrat
Jay Rockefeller 1985 Democrat
Robert Byrd 1988 Democrat
Jay Rockefeller 1990 Democrat
Robert Byrd 1994 Democrat
Jay Rockefeller 1996 Democrat
Robert Byrd 2000 Democrat
Jay Rockefeller 2002 Democrat
Robert Byrd 2006 Democrat
Jay Rockefeller 2008 Democrat

Over the years, coal’s kind of lost its luster.  In 2008 the United States elected a Democrat for President who’s not too keen on coal:

Now West Virginia’s looking at 10% unemployment with no prospects of improving any time soon.  And, with Obama’s attitude, really stand the prospect of becoming much, much, worse if he succeeds in cramming cap and trade down our, and their, throats.

They’ve also got something else to ponder as well.  They have to choose a new Senator.  I’m just wondering what the chances are of the Mountaineers going outside the box they’ve pinned themselves in for the last 64 years?  I can’t wait to watch the coal unions tell their people to vote Democrat.

As expected, the United States Department of Justice is apparently filing suit againt the state of Arizona over its immigrant law.  Apparently Eric Holder will be running with a pre-emptive supremacy clause.  The way I understand it is Holder will be arguing that federal law trumps state law.

And it does.

And Holder will lose.

The reason being is the Arizona law does not interfere with a person’s efforts to become a citizen or if they are here legally.  Both cases are determined by federal law.  However, federal law also states, via Sec. 212. [8 U.S.C. 1182] that if a person is here illegally:

…. who is not in possession of a valid unexpired immigrant visa, reentry permit, border crossing identification card, or other valid entry document required by this Act, and a valid unexpired passport, or other suitable travel document, or document of identity and nationality if such document is required under the regulations issued by the Attorney General under section 211(a) , or …….

That is what Arizona is enforcing and that is what people are freaking out over.  So, what Holder has to argue is that statement does not mean what the Arizona SB 1070 means with:

A REASONABLE ATTEMPT SHALL BE MADE, WHEN PRACTICABLE, TO DETERMINE THE IMMIGRATION STATUS OF THE PERSON. THE PERSON’S IMMIGRATION STATUS SHALL BE VERIFIED WITH THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT PURSUANT TO 8 UNITED STATES CODE SECTION 1373(c).

And if they are indeed here illegally, as determined by the federal government, they will be arrested.

It makes no sense to me that determining a local execution of a federal law could be in any way a conflict.

It’ll go through its hoops, but I predict two outcomes:

  1. It will lose very quickly if the premise presented is indeed what is pursued.
  2. Obama won’t stand a ghost chance in hell of getting any Democrats elected in Arizona.  And they know it.

This will get ugly.  Fortunately Obama’s got NASA appearing on Al Jazeera searching for support within the Muslem astronomy community.

Charles Bolden took bold new steps in pushing NASA in its new direction today.

infidel planet

What was discussing the hottest known planet in the universe will now simply be referred to as an infidel planet being destroyed per Allah’s will.

Or, moreso Barack Obama and Charlie Bolden’s will.

“He has all the virtues I dislike and none of the vices I admire.”

 - Sir Winston Churchill

Strom Thurmond, Foe of Integration, Dies at 100

And:

Robert C. Byrd, a Pillar of the Senate, Dies at 92

Both opposed civil rights initially.  Both converted to support civil rights.  One was an outspoken member of the Ku Klux Klan.  One was not.  Wanna guess which was which?

Oh, and one died a Democrat, the other not.

Both obits were written by Adam Clymer for The New York Times.  Guess we know where his priorities are.  Objective news not being too high on his list apparently.

Hat tip to Doug Powers at MichelleMalkin.com.

A few months ago, President Obama gutted NASA.  People threw a fit.  In order to get his health care reform passed, Obama cut a deal.  Charles Bolden was the man to get it done.  Quite confident in NASA’s lack of direction, Charles Bolden was now in charge of Obama’s newest direction.  They were going to build the next generation module, with no rocket to carry it.  In other words, NASA’s five year mission became to boldly go nowhere.

People made fun of the inane leadership of NASA.  Apparently Charles Bolden didn’t like that.  So, he did what all NASA directors do, he went on Al Jazeera to announce NASA’s new directive.  Now, all the the greatest science minds in the United States of America were going to pull it all together and “engage much more with predominantly Muslim nations to help them feel good about their historic contribution to science, math, and engineering.”

You think I’m joking?  Dontcha.  This is just too dang crazy to be real.  Right?  Watch this:

Screw all that space crap, NASA’s going to spend all their time looking for proof of global warming and how to become better Muslims.

I truly struggle to find words over how crazy this administration is.  Jimmy Carter dealing with alien abductions and Billy beer were nothing on this.  Clinton having sex with THAT cigar, nothing.  Take you cabinet person, pick your craziest story.  It tops anything anyone’s done in my lifetime.  National Aeronautics and SPACE Administration ditching space exploration to prove global warming exists and stroke the science egos of a religion that has killed all their science researchers is yet another complete delusion.  The only Muslem countries interested in rockets are the ones who either possess or want to possess nuclear weapons.  Why does Bolden think there is some value to our country making them better at delivering nuclear warheads?  Exactly where does Bolden think they’ll aim first?  Exactly which Muslem cleric is preaching how they need to reach to the stars and better understand our place in the universe?  Why is Bolden walking the streets without proper supervision?  Sheez.

OK Phil Plait, your turn.  I can’t wait to see how he spins this one.  The main reason NASA is being slaughtered is because of the science community turning a blind eye to it.
