That’s their words, not mine:

Plaintiffs Dennis Horvitz and Kenneth Bronstein are members of American Atheists and are Atheists reared in the Jewish tradition. They find the cross, a symbol of Christianity, offensive and repugnant to their beliefs, culture, and traditions, and allege that the symbol marginalizes them as American citizens.

They even think the US Constitution thinks it’s repugnant:

The challenged cross constitutes an unlawful attempt to promote a specific religion on governmental land, diminishing the civil rights, privileges or capacities of Atheist Americans, Agnostic Americans, Jewish Americans, Muslim Americans, and all others who are not Christian Americans. Because the challenged cross promotes Christianity over all other religions, it also denies non-Christian American equal protection under the laws of the land. As such, the challenged cross is repugnant to the Constitution of the United States.

They even think it’s repugnant to the New York Constitution.

As a direct and proximate result of the unconstitutional existence of the cross, plaintiffs have suffered, and will continue to suffer, damages for which they have no clear, speedy, or adequate remedy at law. Plaintiffs seek a declaration that the inclusion of a cross at the September 11 Memorial and Museum, in the absence of equal acknowledgment of those nonChristians who also were victims of the 9/11 attack, is repugnant to the Constitution of the State of New York. American Atheists seek injunctive relieve against inclusion of the cross and/or an order that a memorial to the non-religious Americans who fell victim to the 9/11 attack be placed within the September 11 Memorial and Museum near the cross. Named plaintiffs also seek injunctive relieve against the inclusion of the cross, together with nominal damages, costs, and attorney fees.

Repugnant seems an awful harsh word. But, that’s nothing compared to their public statement about the suit:

“It has been blessed by so-called holy men and presented as a reminder that their god, who couldn’t be bothered to stop the Muslim terrorists or prevent 3,000 people from being killed in his name, cared only enough to bestow upon us some rubble that resembles a cross. It’s a truly ridiculous assertion.”

Bitter, much?

This is what they find so repugnant:

911 Cross

A poll:

I find it repugnant they’re asking for “nominal damages”.

Greedy, much?

If they’re not just doing it for the money, then they’re doing it because they are remarkably intolerant.

When confronted with things I deem repugnant, I look the other way.  It’s really not that hard to do.  I may bitch about it, but I certainly don’t resort to hiring a bunch of lawyers to deprive everyone else of viewing something they might enjoy.

The courts have become increasingly anti-religious, so I’m not going to bet on how this goes. Common sense tells me these guys will lose.  Common sense, judges, and New York don’t always go together tho.

A lot is being made over the recent row between Allen West and Debbie Wasserman-Schultz.  As per the norm, the liberals are framing it so the Allen West is just bat turd crazy and went off on poor little Debbie.

What all of them are ignoring is their past. As Allen states, Wasserman-Schultz isn’t a lady wallflower.

Now, one can assume Wasserman-Schultz’s vitriol for West stems from one of many issues.  He’s a Republican.  He’s a conservative.  He’s not as white as she is.  He’s not as female as she is.  However, in that video, she singles out one very specific reason to justify her attacks.  He is a Tea Party favorite.  She HATES the Tea Party.

Now, I’m a tepid Tea Party kinda guy.  I believe in some of their fundamental beliefs.  But, they don’t seem to have a whole lot of details on how to get to that point.  You can’t just chop off the budget.  Can’t do it.  Too many legal issues.  You can start working on it.  And that would be a good thing to do.  And, if this country is to survive too much longer, will HAVE to be done.  But, what I have not seen the Tea Party do is endorse ethical values.  I like that.  The Tea Party I learned to know and love was purely a fiscal entity.  They never got sucked into the abortion issue, gay rights, or anything else that truly falls outside the domain of the FEDERAL government.  Individual candidates do, but not the national level Tea Party, that I was aware of.  So, EITHER Debbie Wasserman-Schultz is ignorant of the core Tea Party issue that got this whole thing rolling, OR, she’s attacking the generalization that the Tea Party is simply a renamed Reagan era conservative group.  That’s simple.  That’s easy.  That’s what a lot of liberals do.

But, I’m here to state clearly that if the Tea Party does nothing else at all in the next Congressional election, they need to target Debbie Wasserman-Schultz with every single penny they have.

I’m sure she obviously hates Allen West.  But, it’s obvious she hates the Tea Party just as much.  As a member of the Progressive Caucus, she has to.  Nothing is more opposed to a limited government than the Progressives. Nothing the Tea Party could possibly target would have more meaning than the Progressives.  It goes beyond party, it goes beyond race, it goes beyond gender.  It would completely define the fight as it needs to be.  Big Brother vs States’ Rights as defined by the Constitution.

You REALLY need to do this or run the risk of getting lost like all the other “movements” of my lifetime.

In the heat of a budget stand-off, President Obama had this bi-partisan spirited comment to smooth the hurt feelings and bruised egos:

That’s right, the Republicans are going to take away your social security after August 3 if Obama doesn’t get what he wants.

Scaring the beejeebers out of the elderly, we’ve not seen that one before have we?

Bet the Social Security Trust Fund Board isn’t too happy right now.  I don’t know a whole lot maybe, but I do know that social security is funded separately from the federal government and therefore have a priority over in-house discretionary funding.  In other words, a lot of other things will be shut down before Social Security can be touched.  For Obama to say what he did only has one intent, to scare the elderly into pressuring Republicans to give Obama what he wants, a much bigger budget financed by about 99% borrowing and 1% tax revenues from the “wealthiest” 2%.

Don’t fall for it unless you really want to.

Anyone who might be expecting Mexico to bail us out of our OPEC mess might be bothered by this news from the US Energy Information Administration:

Mexico is a major non-OPEC oil producer and the United States’ second largest source of oil imports. Mexico produced slightly less than 3 million barrels of oil per day (bpd) in 2010, a 500,000 bpd decrease since 2007. EIA projects that Mexico will become a net oil importer by 2020.

To put it in a picture  so it looks more obvious what the problem is:

Mexican Oil Exports to the US

This is driving the price of gas at the pump in the US as much as anything else.  Big difference with the “anything elses” is that this is permanent and getting worse.  There is only one answer and Obama is completely against it.  Caving into pressure to do it would spell guaranteed political death for Obama since it would totally alienate his base.

Drill baby drill!

Then use the money saved to invest in alternative fuels so we can all drive something like this:

Tesla Roadster

Simple, huh?
