Those pesky election year market crashes

Posted by Moonage on 09 Oct 2008 | Tagged as: 2008 Presidential Race, Fun with Numbers, Polls

This is getting too predictable to ignore.  However, the media in general pretty much has.  See if you can follow me on this.
In 2000, we were definitely changing presidents.  It was a neck and neck race with two very politically diverse candidates running.  One was a staunch conservative Republican and the other was a wide [...]

Unemployment jumps to five year high ( I told ya so! )

Almost two years ago, I warned Nancy Pelosi what would happen if they jerked around with the minimum wage without adjusting other funding to account for it.  She’s a stubborn old bag and didn’t listen.  They promptly crammed it through Congress.
July 1, minimum wage went up 70 cents.  That’s about a 13% increase.
One month later, [...]

Keith Ellison’s Utopia

Posted by Moonage on 17 Jul 2008 | Tagged as: Fun with Numbers, Idiot of the day

Representative Keith Ellison submitted this letter to The Hill blogs:
We have to consider the 30 years of stagnant wages that your average Americans have had to face. That fact is that the reason we have people refinancing their homes, getting home equity loans, getting high rate interest credit cards and petty loans is because wages [...]

Nancy Pelosi thinks the SPR will fix the price of gas

Via See-Dubya at Michelle Malkin’s blog, with an assist from Gasbuddy:

Apparently Nancy is finally starting to feel the heat.  So, she came up with the ultimate solution her feable mind could produce:

July 8, 2008
The Honorable George W. Bush
The President of the United States
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W.
Washington, D.C. 20500 [...]

Nancy Pelosi and unemployment

Posted by Moonage on 06 Jun 2008 | Tagged as: 2008 Presidential Race, Fed Policy, Fun with Numbers, National Politics, Politics

The unemployment rate was released today.  It has suddenly jumped to 5.5%.  This is the highest it’s been in four years.  Now, this is a concern to me for two reasons.
In the past decade, if unemployment in May was less than January, it was less in December eight out of ten times.  That’s a pretty [...]

Are all liberal talk show peeps stupid?

Now, I don’t believe that to be necessarily true, I just can’t find one I think is terribly smart.  Today’s example is Thom Hartmann.  In 2005, he tried convincing people that Jimmy Carter tried to prevent the Bush Energy Disasters - 28 years ago.  Now, the reason he states this is because Jimmy gave a [...]

Bear Stearns and the candidates

Here’s the ugly headlines making the rounds at this time:
Bear Bailout: Employees’ Fortunes Vanish

“This is gonna go down as the biggest theft in all of financial history, said William Smith, portfolio manager of Smith Asset Management and a former Bear employee. “The $2 a share stock price is more symbolic than anything because the alternative [...]

Pandering gone wild

Yesterday was another one of those mundane days where Congress passed a whole bunch of stuff that means nothing to anyone.  Two bills kinda stuck out to me for one very goofball reason:
H. Res. 1021: Supporting the goals, ideals, and history of National Women’s History Month
and
H. Res. 1005: Supporting the goals and ideals of Borderline [...]

Perspectives, California v Iraq

Posted by Moonage on 24 Mar 2008 | Tagged as: Fun with Numbers

A lot is being made over another milestone in Iraq.  The 4,000th US soldier died since the war started in 2003.   That’s five years.  That’s about 800 a year.  That’s a lot.  But, not much is being made over the perspective of this.  For instance, about 2,000 people were killed in 2006 ( the most [...]

Hillary loses two endorsements

First, she lost this one:

Now, a lot’s being said about that one, but I think it’s over-rated as far as the average voter goes.  He’s popular in Boston, but that’s about it.  The only thing it does show is a crack in the Clinton “establishment”.   Bill & Ted go back a long way, I’m kinda [...]
