Within one day after President Obama was sworn in for his second term, Harry Reid was putting in motion the vote to eliminate most filibusters. Here is the list of the Senators that think this is such a good idea they chose to co-sponsor it: Sen Baldwin, Tammy [WI] – 1/22/2013 Sen Begich, Mark [AK] [...]

Forbes Magazine just ran a rather awesome, if not damning, article. I loved it. It listed the states where there are more “takers” vs “makers”. And, it very quickly condemned those states, as well as advising anyone investing to steer clear of those states. One of them, being my own. They chide those states for [...]

OK, this is where this all started: A hearing was held at the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife in Frankfort on whether or not new regulations should be passed allowing elephant rides in the Commonwealth. Both sides spoke at Tuesday’s hearing on the proposed regulation change that would allow elephant rides as part of a circus [...]

Barney Frank justifies a harsh estate tax because, for no other reason, the people inheriting the money did nothing to earn it. For starters, Barney Frank should be the last person in this country to be encouraging broad judgments and persecutory laws against people who are in a situation not of their own choice. The [...]

Obama made transparency a big deal when he was running. The assumption was Bush was making all these backroom deals. I don’t think he was. Call it a hunch. So, Obama, pandering to the masses, promised to tell them everything. That has led to an odd result. First there was Nancy Pelosi’s well informed pitch [...]

The Republicans are pushing a measure to end TARP and return unspent funds to lower, make that, not increase, the national debt. I am betting Nancy Pelosi will not allow this subversive effort to limit her ability to spend huge amounts of money to occur. Any takers?

Here’s the story: The AFL-CIO labor union has a new tax in mind. Specifically, the union wants to apply a small tax — a tenth of 1 percent — on every stock transaction. The tax would especially target firms that use so-called high-frequency trading, which uses technology to oversee many transactions in the blink of [...]

Senate Bills 773 and 778 are working their way through the Senate. They address cybersecurity. However, they are getting a lot of slack. Now, the heart of concern is in S. 778, which creates the Office of National Cybersecurity Advisor. There are plenty of excellent and not-so-excellent comments on these bills if you follow those [...]

The Senate passed the DC Voting Rights Act. In order to get it passed, they gave an additional seat to Utah. Senator Joe Liberman was quite thrilled, as was Eleanor Holmes Norton. However, from a fiscally conervative standpoint, this is screwed up. The House of Representatives shall be composed of Members chosen every second Year [...]

This isn’t the first time this has happened, but it’s being discussed again ( via Kerry Picket at Newsbusters.org ): The House Energy and Commerce Committee is also looking at how it can put in place policies that would allow it greater oversight of the Internet. “Internet radio is becoming a big deal, and we’re seeing [...]
