Nancy Pelosi’s Culture of Corruption: Rangel edition

Posted by Moonage on 16 Sep 2008 | Tagged as: 2008 Presidential Race, Ethics

Charlie Rangel, who everyone has to love, is in a little trouble with the IRS, and possibly the FBI I would imagine.  The FBI just usually sort of comes along with the IRS.  Here’s the abbreviated list of what he’s in some doo-doo over:

Rangel’s papers over the past 10 years show no reference to the [...]

CNN and that agent of change thing

Posted by Moonage on 29 Aug 2008 | Tagged as: 2008 Presidential Race, Media

Immediately after it became known that Sarah Palin would be John McCain’s running mate, CNN ran a poll asking people if they had supported Hillary Clinton if they would now consider McCain/Palin.  Approximately 41% at the last I saw it said yes.  That’s enough to turn this election into a washout for Obama.  So, CNN [...]

The economy and the 2008 election

“We’ve been down this road before. It’s the road that George Bush has taken for the last eight years,” Obama said.
And:
“The Bush economy is like a trap door — Too many people are one pink slip away, one missed mortgage payment away, one medical diagnosis away from falling through and losing everything,” Clinton said Thursday [...]

Democrat Senators Forget all about what they ran for

Posted by Moonage on 14 Mar 2008 | Tagged as: 2006 US Senate Races, Ethics, Government, Legislative Process

Remember that promise of change in 2006?  You know, the one where the Democrats promised to get rid of the cronyism and corruption in DC?  Well, they had a chance to walk the walk yesterday.  There was a bill in the form of an amendment to eliminate earmarks completely.  Here’s a list of the “changelings” [...]

Hillary claims your children will die if you don’t vote for McCain?

Posted by Moonage on 29 Feb 2008 | Tagged as: 2008 Presidential Race

I think about everyone who’s watched the Clintons for the last sixteen years or so have seen this coming a mile away and a long time comin.

The message here is obvious:  Your children are at risk unless you vote for the experienced candidate.  You do love your children don’t you?  Well, then ya gotta vote [...]

Kentucky rejects change

Posted by Moonage on 07 Nov 2007 | Tagged as: Media, National Politics

We had an election last night here in Kentucky.  This is how MSNBC interpreted it:
Cyclist Lance Armstrong and Kentucky’s new governor were among the few people who could get voters to embrace change on a day they seemed inclined to re-elect incumbents and reject ballot measures calling for new proposals.
I tired long ago of pointing [...]

Immediate expectations from the 2006 elections

Posted by Moonage on 09 Nov 2006 | Tagged as: National Politics

A lot of people are reading things into this week’s elections. Some people claimed these elections are nothing but a national referendum on Bush and/or the Republicans. As such, I posted my “anticipated results” from the elections a few days ago. I’m still sticking with those “predictions” post-election. Now, here’s what [...]

My 2006 election day prediction

Posted by Moonage on 07 Nov 2006 | Tagged as: Politics

I am basing this not on polls, because polls are just as often wrong as they are right.  I am basing this on things that matter, that are really happening.  The stock market has moved up strongly today.  Wall Street LOVES a useless split House.  When there’s no chance of significant legislation being produced for [...]

ACLU endorses the Patriot Act?

Posted by Moonage on 30 Oct 2006 | Tagged as: National Politics

Well, not exactly.  But they did drop a lawsuit against it citing "improvements to the law".  Here’s the ONLY part that was changed that appease the ACLU:
The lawsuit, filed in July 2003 on behalf of the Muslim Community Association of Ann Arbor, Mich., and five other nonprofit groups, was the first legal challenge to Section [...]

Majority voters determine how smart everyone else is?

Posted by Moonage on 19 Oct 2006 | Tagged as: Opinions

Morgan Quitno Press released this list of the “smartest states” list. Without further ado, here it is, color coded to make it more fun to play with:

1
Vermont

Looks kinda grim for all those people who mocked the “Al Gore voters are smarter than Bush voters” thingy from the past. However, Morgan Quitno has kept [...]
