It’s finally here. If you listen to media pundits, Obama’s got this in a landslide. If you look at the polls, Clinton’s got this in a landslide. I can’t wait to see how the media/polls difference is explained off again. ( Stolen election? Bad exit poll data? ) Bottom line, I think the media LOVES Obama a little too much. He’s a rising star, but I just don’t think he’s quite there yet. If he doesn’t pull it off in 2008, I think he could become formidable in 2012, regardless of who the incumbant president is. Of course, Alan Keyes was the media darling a few years ago as well…….
On the Republican side, both the pundits and the polls say it’s all once-dead-McCain now with Romney making a little noise in a couple of states. There is no difference between what the polls are saying and what the media are saying. So, there’s not much for me to watch apparently. Huckabee’s making a lot of noise, but media’s not listening. I doubt the people taking the polls are either. He peaked WAY too early and people apparently didn’t see enough there to hang on to.
On the Green side, I’m still anxiously waiting for the Cynthia McKinney/Ralph Nader debates. That is probably the most fun I’ll have outside of taking bets on how many times Clinton breaks down on camera to show she’s a caring human.

I went off a while back on Jesse Jackson. He seemed to think Barack Obama wasn’t black enough. Then of course, Hillary’s had some issues garnering every single female vote because she’s not womanly enough. Once Barack was declared the most liberal senator in the United States, Hillary also got the dubious label of not liberal enough. On the Republican side, Mike Huckabee soared to the top of the charts pre-New Hampshire based on his label as being the only one conservative enough. Once people checked him out and figured out he wasn’t conservative enough, he floundered in South Carolina. Which was kind of odd in a way, since he lost profoundly to the man that never was conservative enough.
So, the way things are looking right now, it seems the man that is liberal enough, primarily because he doesn’t vote very often, would face off against the man that’s considered not conservative enough, because he votes too much. I’m sure if McCain had skipped most of the votes in the last few years he could argue he’s conservative enough, even though he’s not.
And, the bigger point, I don’t want him to be. The media, in my opinion, have the entire political arena of the United States so screwed up it will take them a generation to figure it out.
A very simple clue here, when the perceived not-conservative-enough Republican front-runner of a month ago fell apart, he was almost immediately replaced by the perceived not-conservative-enough candidate who was considered dead in the water when the other not-conservative-enough candidate was in the race.
Is that simple enough?

Kucinich alluded to online reports alleging disparities around the state between hand-counted ballots, which tended to favor Sen. Barack Obama, and machine-counted ones that tended to favor Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton. He also noted the difference between pre-election polls, which indicated Obama would win, and Clinton’s triumph by a 39 percent to 37 percent margin.
Got news for Dennis, pre-election polls WITHIN the margin of error of the final vote are hardly an indication something went wrong.
And, it is not unusual for discrepencies in mail-in versus real-life votes. Very simple logic here. Obama’s supporters are more enthusiastic, ergo more likely to send in an absentee ballot. Whereas, Clinton’s supporters are more numerous.
Unfortunately for the Kucinich’s, Pauls, and possibly Obamas, the latter is all that matters in the end during an election.
This however, is the exact same mistake I think the media made in New Hampshire as well.
My buds at Independent Sources so nailed this issue I just suggest going there and reading it. A synopsis:
…….but reading this story about Brazil’s recent discovery of a deep water oil field of 5,000,000,000 to 8,000,000,000 barrels of oil made me think of it…….
……but when the US has a known field of 25 to 50% greater size which is easier to extract it’s exploitation will do nothing to lower prices or decrease foreign oil dependence.
Ditto. Methinks there’s a lot more to ANWR than simple economics.
You know you’re in a bad way when Google’s context sensitive advertising does this:

Now, ya just gotta wonder why “Ann Coulter” would even come up in an article that never mentions her. More politics by Google? Or, is Ann’s name now so synonomous with “Jew” that Google’s engine just can’t help it?
Honestly, I would not place a bet either way.

I read the exchange Ann Coulter had with Donny Deutsch.
Maybe this will be the final straw to get her out of our hair.
Now, I realize there is all kinds of over-the-top liberals spewing hate and stuff like that. However, most people have the common sense to not drop to their level. By setting the example, it gives others a reason to do the same. Ann’s never done that. The trashier and sleazier the other side got, Ann was right there with them with some kind self-annointed approval from God. Anyone that is not a flame throwing liberal was kind of embarrassed to be in the same boat. Hopefully this latest bizarre outburst will be the last.
That’s the headline. Here’s the fact:

And people wonder why we’re a polarized nation. If people realized the true shape this nation’s in, there would be very little to be polarized about. Of course, most media would be bankrupt.
I can live with that.
As I pointed out a long time ago, Rather’s final months were just the icing on the cake. As far as the Texas Air Guard story went, he had plenty of notice real quick that the story was flawed, but chose to run it anyway, then blamed the blogosphere for attacking it. As he noted at the time, HE was in charge of the news content that came out of CBS. HE was in charge. That is well documented all over the place. To then come back and claim he was not supported and protected by the people HE claims he was in charge of is just as loony as his run-in with the frequency guy.
My bet is this goes nowhere. Dan just needs to retire or sit in on The View.
Every time I think The View has sunk to the lowest it can possibly get, a new character drags it even lower. We had the Rosie blaming Bush for 9/11 crap, citing metal doesn’t melt due to fire. Then we had Whoopi. Now we’ve got Joy Behar comparing the Republican Presidential candidates to members of the Ku Klux Klan. She doesn’t offer any shred of logic as to why she blurted that out.
Is shock value truly the only content The View now has to offer?
Most of the normal blogdom has already suggested Robert Byrd drop in and give advice to Behar on what a Klansman truly represents. So, I won’t have to do go that route.
Just a quickie update. Mrs. Moon, who is a Democrat, reminds me that Joy is a comedian. She, nor I, got the joke. I have noticed for a long time when comedians try to be funny regarding politics, it often falls flat, or worse.

The University of Florida Police Department is taking some heat for the less than subtle means they used to shut up Andrew Meyer during a John Kerry presentation. Wearing the over-abused cliche drooping khaki pants and a t-shirt, this guy was obviously no threat to anyone. The cops didn’t get his prank or thought it was funny, so they tasered him. More than once actually. Being obnoxious doesn’t merit tasering. Sometimes I wish it did, but it doesn’t. A strong punch to the jaw I think would have shut him up more effectively and would have probably led to a lot less publicity. Media folks just don’t run around publishing stories with a headline that reads something to the effect of “Student punched in jaw!”. Proper plan, bad execution. The upside of all this is it gives me a good reason to watch Monty Python some more:
Now, Arthur had it down perfect. When someone protests too much, just walk away and ignore them.
